I quit weed two weeks ago. The reason it was such a treacherous drug, at least for me, was that it never really became a problem. I never got bad grades, lost a job, or messed up a relationship due to it. There was never a point where I hit rock bottom, where I was sucking dick in some back alley to afford the next joint; there was never a come-to-Jesus moment. It was just a bad habit, one that had been causing me to operate at ~85% capacity for years and years. So I decided to quit. Unfortunately, this meant dealing with withdrawal. I think the popular opinion of weed is that its withdrawal symptoms lie somewhere between "mild" and "nonexistent." That wasn't the case for me. I'll grant that weed withdrawal is, I assume, not as bad as withdrawal from other drugs. But for me, it absolutely sucked. If you weren't aware, the withdrawal symptoms for weed almost perfectly mirror the symptoms of smoking it. Whereas smoking makes you sleepy, quitting gives you insomnia. Whereas smoking makes you hungry, quitting makes you lose your appetite. And whereas smoking makes you euphoric, quitting makes you grumpy and depressed. For me, these depressed feelings were especially bad. While I was quitting, I was furious and miserable all the time. I despised the world and everyone in it. And it was so easy for me to rationalize these emotions! I would say that these feelings were the natural response to living in such a shitty world. And only after ranting to myself for three hours would I snap out of it and realize it was the withdrawal talking. That's what inspired the quoted post about the New Mexican Cube. You think that you're depressed because the world sucks, but actually, you think the world sucks because you're depressed. Emotions don't necessarily follow from your perceptions; often they precede them. (I felt kind of bad about the post anyway, since it seemed like some people were actually planning to go to that location. While going to the cube would certainly make them angry, it wouldn't be for the reasons they thought!) Anyway, this is your sign to quit whatever terrible habit you have. The basil bush in my garden burst aflame and God told me to make this post, just for you. He says you ignored the two boats he sent, and hopes that you won't overlook this helicopter as well.

Near my uncle’s property in rural New Mexico there is a space in the mountains, roughly cubic in volume, 9 feet to an edge, which causes its occupants to feel extremely angry. Upon entering the space, their view of the world and their fellow man immediately sours. A black veil of cynicism falls over them and they begin making perfectly rational and well-informed arguments on why the world is terrible and why most of its people would be better off dead or enslaved. Of course, as soon as they leave this space, they wonder what the hell they were thinking. They look at their prior arguments and can’t get into the headspace to develop them further. In fact, from the outside, the reasoning seems downright slipshod. New, more optimistic arguments spring to mind. My uncle thinks there may be more spaces like this one. Paranormal phenomena like these are a useful reminder: listening to your emotions only makes sense if your emotions are worth listening to.

I used to think I loved helping people because I was just a kind person. Then I learned ADHD brains get dopamine from solving problems, being needed, and making things better. So now I know I am kind and chemically rewarded.
