1️⃣Accountability Now has filed a sanctions submission with the @USTreasury against Speaker Nabih Berri. The filing presents a compelling case for his designation based on rampant corruption, state capture, control over a suspicious oil cartel tied to the Zahrani oil installations

Another deadly weekend in Lebanon, with journalists, healthcare workers and a UN peacekeeper killed. Civilians, media, medical personnel and UN peacekeepers must be protected. International humanitarian law must be respected.

While many countries are abolishing or reducing the use of the death penalty, Israel is doing the opposite, writing it into law. Israel’s Death Penalty Law institutionalizes and legalizes the state’s mechanism for executing Palestinians. Since October 2023, Israel has killed at least 72,000 Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, and at least 1,050 Palestinians in the West Bank. During this time, more than 80 Palestinian prisoners have died in Israeli prisons, which have turned into a network of torture camps where prisoners are subjected to continuous abuse and violence. The death penalty law adds another official killing mechanism to existing practices. The mass incarceration of Palestinians is a feature of Israel’s apartheid regime. As of March 2026, about 9,500 Palestinians are held in inhumane conditions in Israeli prisons, roughly half of them under administrative detention or as “unlawful combatants,” without trial and with no ability to defend themselves. Death penalty for Palestinians only: The law is worded to apply to Palestinians only, and it is set to make the killing of Palestinians a normalized, common punitive tool through several mechanisms: The law gives military courts no discretion. Military judges will be required to sentence Palestinians convicted of murder to death, except in “special circumstances.” There is no requirement for a unanimous decision. A simple majority will suffice, and avenues for appeal will be extremely limited. Only Palestinians are tried in military courts. Their conviction rate is 96%, based largely on “confessions” extracted under duress and torture during interrogations. The penalty, execution by hanging, must be carried out within 90 days of sentencing, with no possibility of pardon. A designated prison officer will execute the sentence. The law, which enjoys broad public support in Israel, is expected to pass in the Knesset tomorrow, Monday, 30 March. The Israel Prison Service has already begun preparing designated execution facilities. The death penalty is a total violation of the most basic human rights, primarily, the right to life. Israel enforces a comprehensive policy of killing and oppression against the Palestinian people in all the territories it controls. The Death Penalty Law gives Israel’s apartheid regime yet another tool for advancing that policy.

Bernie Sanders: “I will be forcing a vote in the Senate on legislation to block the sale of nearly $1B in weapons to the Israeli military for bombs and bulldozers. A government that has committed genocide in Gaza does not need more military support from American taxpayers”

I don’t think people realize how much healthcare costs are driving big companies to fire and not hire. It costs them $30k per family, per year for premiums and care. Most of that goes to the massive, vertically integrated insurance companies that send weekly bills that no one reviews in details. And it doesn’t include the company overhead to deal with it all. It’s usually the 2nd largest expense after payroll. Which is insane It’s far easier to blame AI than it is to blame Healthcare costs. Want to increase jobs, wages and improve affordability for every American ? Break up the biggest insurance companies. Make divest non insurance companies. They don’t need thousands of subsidiaries. That’s how they game and abuse the system and increase costs for all of us. Call your senator and tell them to support the BreakUp Big Medicine Bill by @HawleyMO and @SenWarren.

Belgium’s MEP Marc Botenga exposes Europe’s hypocrisy: “You sanction Russia, which attacks Ukraine — but you support the United States when it bombs Iran. You condemn Russia, which occupies Ukraine — but you support Israel occupying Palestine and Lebanon. We blame our opponents for what we allow our allies to do — cheerfully — while smiling at Tel Aviv and Washington. The double standard of this Europe is not only a shame — it creates a world of chaos and wars, a world in which we do not want to live, and in which we do not want our children to grow up. Today, this Europe is not a force for good, but an accomplice to crime. That’s enough.”

The ethnic cleansing of the West Bank has reached a new stage. Area C, has been almost completely emptied of Palestinians and the ethnic cleansing of Area B is well under way. Now the cleansing of Area A, which is supposed to be under the PA, has begun: 1) Settlers established five new outposts overnight, with at least three located in Area A, where Israeli entry is illegal. A new outpost in the 'Ayun area, and others in the Wadi Tayasir and near Jenin and Nablus complete the picture. 2) Clashes broke out during a dispute at one of the newly established illegal outposts near the Palestinian village of Harmala. An Israeli civilian murdered Mohammad Faraj Al-Malhi, a 27-year-old resident of East Jerusalem. 3) Meanwhile, the settlers launched a large coordinated attack on the village of Deir al-Hatab, located east of Nablus. Settlers set fire to multiple homes and vehicles, often using Molotov cocktails. At least nine Palestinians were injured during the raid, including a 45-year-old man shot in the foot and a woman suffering from smoke inhalation. 4) Families from Yarza were forced to flee for the second time in March 2026. After the families fled, settlers reportedly set fire to the abandoned structures to prevent any potential return. As you can see in the map, Area A is a tiny area. The only thing left for the Palestinians and now the settlers are coming to take it. Full ethnic cleansing.

For a second, I got confused about who started the war and whose troops are invading another country.
António Costa@eucopresident

In my call today with President @Isaac_Herzog of Israel, I expressed the EU’s solidarity with the Israeli people in light of the daily attacks by Iran and Hezbollah. Such attacks must stop immediately. Amid the ongoing violence in the Middle East, I called for de-escalation and maximum restraint, the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure, and full respect for international law by all parties. Only diplomacy can ensure a sustainable solution to Iran’s threats, including on the nuclear file. I also urge Israel to seize the moment for direct talks with Lebanon. Lebanese stability and territorial integrity must be preserved, and Israel must ensure the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure. We also addressed the humanitarian situation in Gaza, which must urgently improve, as well as the need for Hamas’s disarmament. The situation in the West Bank is extremely worrying, and I urged action to address settler violence. There is an urgent need to de-escalate and end the violence, as well as to halt continued settlement expansion.

If @VW starts manufacturing weapons for Israel, it can forget about a future selling cars in the Middle East and beyond; this could have a big impact on VW, Audi and Porsche, as well as Skoda which is trying to grow in the region. If they had stuck to building the best cars possible, VW Group would not be in such financial difficulties. Two wrongs won't make a right. ft.com/content/1e41e6…

I did not expect to find myself nodding along to Tzipi Livni, Israel's former, and hawkish, Foreign Minister. Yet here we are. She is right on this: A State that treats the rule of law as optional, and human rights as conditional on race or nationality, irreparably corrodes itself. The decades-long project of violently subjugating Palestinians has not only harmed its victims. It has consumed Israel, from within.

Wilberforce got the statue. This man got the mud. Thirty-five thousand miles of it. His name was Thomas Clarkson. Born in England. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Cambridgeshire. 1760. He was twenty-four years old when Cambridge set him an essay question. "Is it lawful to make slaves of others against their will?" He knew nothing about slavery. So he started reading. Two months later he couldn't stop. He won the prize and rode home to London with something nobody had given him. A conscience he couldn't put down. Halfway there, on a quiet country road, he stopped his horse. Sat in the silence of the English countryside. The trade was real. He had just proved it. And somebody had to stop it. So he gave up the church and got to work. Bristol. Liverpool. Every slave port in Britain. Into the taverns, the back rooms, the ships. Asking sailors what they had seen below decks. Men who had been there. Who knew what happened on the Middle Passage. Some refused. Some were threatened. Some were bought. Clarkson kept riding. Thirty-five thousand miles. Ten years. Every testimony written down in longhand on the road. All of it handed to a young MP named William Wilberforce. Wilberforce went to Parliament and gave the speeches. Clarkson saddled up and went back out. In 1792 they put a petition together. Not from London. Not from the powerful. From ordinary men and women. Market towns, village squares, chapel steps across England. Four hundred thousand signatures. The largest petition in British parliamentary history. Parliament voted it down. So they went again. And again. Eighteen years of going again. 25 March 1807. The Slave Trade Act passed. Britain outlawed the trade and turned the Royal Navy loose to hunt the ships. History gave Wilberforce the statue. Coleridge called Clarkson the moral steam engine of the abolition movement. Clarkson lived to see slavery abolished completely in 1833. An old man of seventy-three, who had started this at twenty-four. He died in 1846. The last surviving founder of the original committee. He never held office. Never gave the famous speeches. He just got back on the horse. For sixty years. Did they teach you his name? Together we keep our history alive. proudofus.co.uk/support Be part of us. Be Proud Of Us. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧
