@davematt88 My point is it was always broken. If your post was simply that it’s broken, then we agreed before and agree after my clarification

@movedabitnorth I'm not sure I know what your point is because all I said was that it's broken. Didn't say it just got broken.

The constitution, very specifically , gives only congress the power to declare war. The fact that we are currently in a war initiated by the president without congressional approval demonstrates that our system of checks and balances has completely broken down.

🚨BREAKING: 🚨 US Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania is reportedly considering LEAVING the Democratic Party and running for re-election as an independent or even possibly A REPUBLICAN in 2028, citing the "growing radicalism and extremism within the Democratic Party". Would YOU vote for John Fetterman in a Republican primary, patriots? 📢🇺🇸🚨

I have supported Trump since day one but I can't figure out what he and his administration are thinking and doing right now. His messaging sounds like it's coming from a person with split personalities. We need the strait, we don't need the strait, Lindsey Graham is not straight, other countries should take the strait, we're gonna take the strait or wage war on 93 million civilians. Contradictory Positions: Position 1: US will actively open it / take control “With a little more time, we can easily OPEN THE HORMUZ STRAIT, TAKE THE OIL, & MAKE A FORTUNE. IT WOULD BE A ‘GUSHER’ FOR THE WORLD???” Suggested the US could seize and profit from the oil. Warned Iran that the war won’t end until the strait is reopened (and threatened escalation if it stayed closed). Position 2: It’s not our problem / allies or others should handle it “We have nothing to do with the Hormuz Strait… That’s not for us.” Told allies (e.g., France, UK, Europe): “If you want oil, go up through the strait… build up some courage and just TAKE IT.” “The United States does not [need to guard it]. The Hormuz Strait will have to be guarded… by other Nations who use it.” Position 3: It will open naturally / no big deal “When this conflict is over, the strait will open up naturally.” “We don’t need it… The U.S. imports almost no oil through the Hormuz Strait.” Suggested the US could exit the conflict even if the strait remained closed. Other notes/flip-flops: Criticized allies for not helping reopen it, then said the US doesn’t need their help anyway. Shifted timelines (war ending in 2–3 weeks vs. longer) and conditions for ceasefire (strait must be open first, vs. willing to leave without it). These statements appeared in Truth Social posts, speeches, interviews, and Oval Office remarks over a short period in March–April 2026, often changing within days. What do you think of this messaging?

I believe he’s maybe being manipulated by some outside agency, possibly with a lucrative, post career offer. We won’t know until next year, but he certainly isn’t worried about representing North Carolinians. It’s still impossible to say if January 6 was a setup. It has the earmarks of a real riot with some highly questionable and significant aspects that feed into the setup theory. To me, we’ve experienced riots many times in our history. Our law enforcement’s over-reaction and, in many cases, the kangaroo court cases afterwards is the part we should be most embarrassed by. For Tillis to site J6 as his reason for his anti-Trump stance really hurts his credibility, but I’m pretty sure he doesn’t care.

🚨 RINO Alert: Sen. Thom Tillis just declared he’ll vote NO on Trump’s next Attorney General nominee unless they agree that January 6 was worse than Pearl Harbor, 9/11, and the Trail of Tears — “in every single facet.” Let that sink in. On 9/11, nearly 3,000 Americans were murdered in the worst terrorist attack on our soil. At Pearl Harbor, over 2,400 Americans died in a surprise military assault that thrust us into World War II. The Trail of Tears was a tragic chapter of forced relocation and death for thousands of Native Americans. January 6? A riot at the Capitol where zero people were killed by protesters (one unarmed veteran was shot by police, and a few others died of natural causes or medical emergencies afterward). Yet this North Carolina Republican is out here acting like Jan 6 was the greatest tragedy in American history — and he’ll torpedo Trump’s pick over it. Thom Tillis isn’t just wrong. He’s a classic RINO who hates Trump more than he hates actual attacks on America. America First voters are watching, Senator. This kind of nonsense is why trust in GOP “leadership” is dead. What do you think — time for Tillis to hear from real conservatives? 🔥 #Trump2028 #RINO #January6 #AmericaFirst

@SarahforWI I suspect it is unconstitutional. But mail-in ballots are also one of the least secure ways to run an election.

Like say Ukraine (Crimea) in 2014? I Jane no problem with the proxy war against Russia over their invasion of Ukraine. I’m not sure it’s money well spent given the lack of control on the money and the level of corruption in Ukraine, but Ukraine deserves global support (and probably did in 2014). That has little to do with the point I’m making.

There are plenty of democrat leaning voters who are not part of the fold; clearly enough to swing an election. Clearly there was lots of left disagreement about the transgender issue (as an example). But when looking at the large numbers, far more democrats will voluntarily stay in the fold versus republicans. The main point, however, was about supporters who interact with the public (politicians, talking heads, media and influencers). You almost always see more disagreement on the Republican side. That was the case before and after Trump. There are some republicans saying they can’t go against Trump? How effective Is the threat? Well, just look at the Senate and some of Trump’s priority issues before them today (Save Act, the filibuster and recess appointments). Compare that to the 3 high profile democrats that spoke out against the Democratic party: Manchin, Sinema and Fetterman. That threat is real.

The salient point is that, as I stated, for both Iran and Ukraine, there was no dissent amongst Democratic ranks but there was dissent amongst Republican ranks. That dynamic is largely true no matter what the issue. As for your gracious opening, pretty bold considering you missed the main point.

If you define MAGA as those who support the war, then your point is correct by definition. Independents who voted for Trump (consider them as leaning right) and moderate Republican are obviously not staying with the party line. That’s why the war is so unpopular. The hardcore MAGA group will support Trump the same way I described most democrats supporting their party.

Is that why the Republican lead Senate is doing almost nothing that Trump is asking? You need to look at all relevant facts and not just those that support your argument. The Senate has no fear of not passing the save act and blocking Trump’s recess appointments. These are gigantic impediments to Trump’s stated agenda. The Democratic mavericks. Of yeah, Manchin and Sinema. What happen to them again? And let’s not forget Fetterman and the DNC threatening to fund his primary challenger. But that’s not for a couple of years.

@movedabitnorth @evanwch This is a crazy take especially right now. Donald Trump quite literally owns the RNC itself. CPAC is his personal spin machine, and every congressperson that has been critical of him in the last 10 years gets death threats until they resign.

@vancemurphy Iran, and the associated domestic issues, are likely to resolve fairly quickly, but you are correct. All middle class families needs relief, especially those in many blue states where their state and local governments are taking more of their earnings than ever before.

So let’s talk about the big ones. Maybe I missed the European dictatorship after WW2 or the South Korean dictatorship in the 50’s. How about the Iraqi dictatorship, that’s a good one. How about more recently. Nice of the US to install the same dictatorship in Venezuela that was already in power. For the most part, you’re confusing the CIA with the US military. The CIA often installed US friendly dictators. And while there are some examples of the US military involvement, it’s not as common as you suggest. I appreciate your anti-war stance, but please be honest about it

I've long thought and continue to think that the single dumbest group of people are those who believe that the US Govt fights wars to free the oppressed peoples of the world. The slightest knowledge of US history shows it far more often imposes dictatorships than uproots them.

Foreign ambassadors are not subject to US jurisdiction and therefore cannot be prosecuted for their crimes. All the US can really do is expel/deport them. That is the federal penalty for illegals. The fact that many are in state jails may not matter. Not sure which way SCOTUS will go. It’s a complicated issue but not nearly as cut and dry as you make it sound.

Ridiculous! The very fact that they CAN be arrested, charged, and hopefully sentenced for this planned attack means that they ARE subject to U.S. jurisdiction! Otherwise they'd be able to get away with their crime free!

Two birthright citizens, born to illegal immigrant parents from China, tried to bomb an Air Force base on American soil. Whoever they were “subject to the jurisdiction thereof,” it wasn’t the United States of America.
