Russia's attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure during the cold winter months left thousands of people without electricity or heating. In these photographs by Mykhaylo Palinchak, everyday flats are adapted to cope with the cold: tents set up indoors to retain warmth, pets brought closer, rooms rearranged to conserve heat. Ordinary city homes temporarily reshaped by the consequences of war. These attacks force people to turn their living spaces into makeshift shelters. Stopping them requires stronger air defence for Ukraine and tougher sanctions on Russia. #WarmthForUkraine

Due to constant Russian shelling of Kyiv energy infrastructure, amid severe frosts, most of the city’s residents have been left without electricity and heating. Few decided to reduce their comfort zone to the size of a tent, which they have placed right in their cold apartments.

“The longer the war goes on, the more dangerous our work becomes,” says Yana Zinkevych, founder of the Hospitallers.

Currently, numerous Russian drones are swarming on the frontline. Hundreds of them of various types are visible almost all over the horizon: large reconnaissance drones, DJI Mavic, and day and night FPVs. Their presence poses the greatest threat to the Ukrainian infantry.

@mpalinchak made this very moving photo of soldier holding cage and aquarium in the first days of russian invasion. I used it in my documentary. Later on I fugured out that this guy died. Printed copy of this pic now stored in my apartment in Kyiv.

The road to the cemetery in Siversk is too dangerous, so the dead are buried in a makeshift cemetery near the destroyed hospital. There are already 20 graves here, 6 of them appeared in the last two weeks, locals say. Siversk, Donetsk region, Ukraine, March 2024
