Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy has said the department will no longer use Elon Musk's social media platform X - declaring that it "now favours abuse and misinformation over meaningful debate". It's the second government department to withdraw from the platform, after the Attorney General told his office not to use X last month. Ms Nandy said she would also stop posting, saying it wasn't healthy for democracy.

@BBCNews You can't seem to ask her to give specific examples of misinformation as she's turned off her replies. Funny that.

@lancs_rob @EllisPalmer94 Because something needs to revolve around somewhere. You can't have multiple cities being in equity. There will be a hierarchy somewhere, in order of importance. That place will be labelled as the centre instead of somewhere else.

@mpr5013 @EllisPalmer94 Why should it revolve around London ? Thatchers post industrial obsession with basing the entire economy (services ect) around London has been a total disaster. Blair accelerated that trend further. Now starmer is basing AI almost exclusively in London. Everyone else gets shafted

As a northerner who had to leave his region to work in London because there wasn’t the work available in the Northwest, I really welcome the opportunities for more professional communication communications/media/politics jobs up here.

@Blade94Razor @ericschares More people watch Cricket (probably the 3rd/4th participation sport in lonely old UK) globally if you count India also then they do any American sports combined. Just let that sink in. Like Brian Cox explaining the wonders of the universe.

@ericschares The funniest part about that... Is that nobody outside of America watches American Football, Baseball or Basketball. But the rest of the world loves Football, Rugby and Cricket. Has it even once entered your mind that maybe you're the problem? 😅

Love how Spurs just casually found £200m down the back of the sofa for Tonali and Fernandes. Fair play, but as a Villa fan, please make FFP make sense to me.

@Newrygal1 You'll know if you're being filmed as the light comes on the glasses. Their sole purpose isn't just the cameras, you can get prescription lenses for it, use it as an AI tool or listen to music.

Anyone know the laws or guidelines around those creepy Meta glasses? Like am I allowed to be filmed without my permission? Especially inside shops/bars/restaurants ? Surely they are private spaces so the whole 'i can film in public its legal' is bullshit?

@lancs_rob @EllisPalmer94 You have to "settle" somewhere. You can't settle everywhere. That's the problem with his logic, if it's Manchester, another city is upset. How about the country revolves around its capital city?

@EllisPalmer94 Mate. The hub is in Manchester (as always). They already have media city and so on. They now get this political hub as well. Once again another politician who thinks "the north" has to revolve around Manchester. Personally if I was from Leeds or Newcastle I would be raging

We need to get serious about the crises facing us all: climate change, inequality and war. In a few years' time, will we look back and be grateful that we spent billions on weapons? Or will we look back and wish we had the common sense to invest in a greener, fairer world?

You have descended into an election-losing far right agitator whipping up hatred. Many of us have parents & grandparents who arrived in the UK fleeing war & persecution. It's part of what makes this country great, yet people like you would slam the door on people seeking safety.

Cruel is forcing the hardworking British people to spend £5 BILLION a year supporting illegals they never asked to have in their country to begin with. Vote Reform.

Watching Andy Burnham’s speech now, it’s undeniable there’s a new and fresh excitement behind him from the Labour Party. Does the fact Keir Starmer didn’t have an inch of charisma help Burnham? Of course it does. Throughout his speech he’s cracking jokes, making the audience laugh, throwing in impromptu lines, and, on first impressions, he looks like a leader. But actions speak louder than words. We’ll find out very soon whether any of what he’s saying actually means anything.

Here’s Makerfield MP Andy Burnham leaving by a side entrance moments after his speech today. I think it is appalling that he would not take questions from us journalists. He will be made Prime Minister of our country three weeks today. More coverage and analysis at @GBNEWS.

Good to see Andy Burnham embracing scrutiny by taking no questions after his first “landmark” speech that was little more than just vibes. The question he can’t avoid forever when he becomes PM is: when will the UK stop selling arms to the genocidal apartheid state of Israel?

“Good growth in every postcode and hope in every heart”. That’s a vision I can get behind. Hope backed by a plan. A roadmap for doing things differently, giving power back to places that have long been forgotten, and unlocking bottom-up growth.

Andy Burnham says he has a "10-year mission to raise people's living standards" and will "seek to give Britain some breathing space" "Imagine good growth in every postcode and hope in every heart," he adds Follow live: bbc.in/3R4mOSR

Andy Burnham set out a 10 year vision to raise people’s living standards by creating good growth in every postcode, and hope in every heart. This will be done by giving local people the tools, power and resources to reach their potential. I fully support that, & Andy for PM!

Andy Burnham may just have pulled the rug from under Reform with that speech. If he delivers on even half of what he's just promised, the politics of fear, division and scapegoating could be in real trouble.
