@TheTrueVanguard please don't downplay the hate towards bungie, they worked hard to earn it

Marathon is stuck between a rock and a hard place. It's an incredibly good game, but the more casual audience seems to be avoiding it. But if they dumb the game down, it will be considerably worse and I'll likely stop playing it. It's basically a phenomenal game that doesn't appeal, I guess, to a wider audience. I'm not sure what exactly the solution is, maybe it's better strategic marketing and creative efforts to onboard new players. I'm not sure. But dumbing the game down would likely fix nothing. You might get new players to temporarily try it, but then they're playing a considerably less inspired game and will bounce off it. I also think the truly bizarre pre-launch hate campaign was SUPER weird. Like, gamers can be such strange people and I say that with peace and love. But I'm not sure I've ever seen a global predisposition to hate a game the way I saw it with Marathon. People were literally parroting the exact same sentences for months, almost like they had talking points and were collectively regurgitating them. Like the places where gamers hang out (YT, Reddit, Twitch, X, etc) had posts or something hating the game that circulated so much that people just latched onto them. I dunno. Either way, it didn't do the game any favors. I'm not sure what the best path forward is but good marketing and a positive outward image might help. And the vault wipes are definitely a good thing, that's totally necessary. But I think diluting the game to make it more palatable is the wrong play personally. Short term gain maybe, but over time will actually hurt retention I think.

@aNichiporchik i just got this on ps5, holy shit it's awesome. the sequel will be an insta buy, i haven't considered the game before this.

Many are asking if it’s worth it, to give away a game like this for free Outside of the currently 400k wishlists for the sequel, we’ve also Made almost 250k usd from selling DLCs for the original. This is just on Steam. Haven’t gotten the console numbers yet So it makes sense when you have a lot of DLC

a good software project is around 300-500k loc i personally never buy a saas below 200k loc ideally you ship source maps and tests in production

@DSR_Joker What happened to D2 PvP when casuals weren't catered to? slow population attrition where the skill floor keeps on rising, each time the new lowest skill tier leaves because no one likes being cannon fodder, creating a vicious cycle. Hate them all you like, but games need casuals.

Even if you like Marathon you have to admit this is a poor argument, in D2 casuals have loads of other content to play for $40. This is more like paying $40 for H3's PvP, only to find out you get 4 Maps, Valhalla, High Ground, Epitaph, and The Pit, and you don't get to play Pit.

Wrote about the Metaverse in the book. It's incredible how the press and ad industry lapped up a bad reboot of Second Life as somehow groundbreaking. Equally incredible that Zuckerberg and the brand pay no price for literally renaming the company after this debacle.

Damned if you do or don’t. I played for 100 hours and didn’t, but I explored like how most people will play. If you do, you may get through it, but it’s going be a worse experience especially with difficulty spikes you are not prepared for since you didn’t do much else

@GhazzyTV Yeah, definitely go in blind. Embrace building a sub optimal factory with nowhere near enough space leading to a spaghetti atrocity. Looking up guides will have you over focus on efficiency as opposed to enjoying figuring out how to automate your factory. Imo.

@PaulTassi @Forbes For me it's that Bungie implements tactics I DON'T want to see other studios try and emulate: specifically manipulative monetisation. We saw it with the eververse, we saw them now testing it with their bad battle pass and currency scam. Bungie doesn't get the benefit of trust.

@itzTizzleYT I started playing POE2 after getting fed up with Bungie. It's been so refreshing seeing how GGG respect their game and community as opposed to seeing us as walking wallets to be bled dry

These scummy tactics piss me off so much. They’re not the only company to do this by a long shot, but I hate it from any company. Also, don’t buy MTX. Speak with your wallet and companies will stop. Show some restraint
