i bet australia’s national electricity market will go from 3% wind+solar (in 2012) to 70% wind+solar in a similar (if not shorter) timeframe, @BieglerTom.

By installing nuclear power France went from 3% to 70% clean electricity in the 20 years to 1997. No country adding solar and wind power has come anywhere near that transition rate, even with today's strong motivation. Nuclear slow? Not intrinsically. If it is, we've made it so.
