Sir Cliff Richard has revealed to Good Morning Britain that he's had successful treatment for prostate cancer. The 85-year-old music legend got the diagnosis during health checks for his latest tour and now says he wants to work with the King to improve screening and diagnosis.

John Stapleton was the ultimate professional. A brilliant broadcaster and journalist. But he also showed respect to everyone he worked with. That is why former colleagues are so sad today. He was part of the team and we were all privileged to know him.

Sad to hear of the death of John Stapleton. From Watchdog to Breakfast television he was a brilliant presenter. I remember him on BBC1’s Nationwide in the early evenings. Here’s my musical tribute to an outstanding journalist and broadcaster.

John was a friend, a colleague and a great journalist. Few understood or communicated to an audience better than him. Off air he was a generous and supportive colleague who was a cheerleader for many in our newsroom and beyond. We'll miss you Stapes

John Stapleton was one of the very best presenters I directed at GMTV and @GMB. His versatility was unmatched, and he had an innate ability to navigate any challenge from breaking news to technical hiccups, whether in the studio or on location he was brilliant. Each Christmas, he and @WhichPennySmith would bring the crew presents, showing just how much he cared about the team. He was truly one of the good guys. Rest in peace, Stapes.

I just want to send a note of support to my behind the scenes colleagues and friends at @GMB and @thismorning, and across ITV daytime. Many, including scores of hardworking, dedicated, talented, production staff, and studio and other crew, (as has widely been reported) are being told their roles are at risk of redundancy and that they will have to compete for similar positions. It's a very difficult time, and I want to send a public note of appreciation for everything they do and have done (as I'm not due in the building for a while to see people in person - and even when there its only a fraction). And I think its important to be clear, in public, that this is primarily a function of the decline in linear television - and not a reflection on the quality of the work. TV ratings (and thus for ITV, show revenue) keep dropping by, say, 10% year on year as more people switch to streaming and other online eyeball competition. That then leads to cost cutting, and job losses. Not that understanding the rational makes it easier, for anyone facing this life challenge. Good vibes to all.

Very sad news. I did work experience at Capital Radio in the 90s when Howard was presenting the news. He was so kind and generous with his time. You don't forget that. RIP
