@richardker 2 big groups - one that linger in fancy malls and restaurants on the west side, while the other enjoy to be drenched in sweat or cooked under the sun on the east side. The west side probably enjoy the nightlife more, unlike those on east side who prefer fireflies instead.

They said Kuala Lumpur was a mistake… So I bumped into these two at the airport express train platform yesterday. They looked lost. Not sure which train to board. I told them they were at the right one. And then we started talking. They are both nurses from Beijing. They came to Singapore first before coming to Kuala Lumpur. Then one of them said something surprising… “We made a mistake coming to KL. We actually don’t want to see another big city.” I think I know why they said that. Beijing is about 67 times bigger than Kuala Lumpur. And I know people have their own preferences. I didn’t argue. But they were keen to visit Sabah and Sarawak in Malaysian Borneo. And I also told them where else they should visit. They said they want to come back. Nobody asked me to do that. I am not a tourism ambassador. I don’t work for Tourism Malaysia. But I love this country. And I truly want them to feel our hospitality, genuine warmness and friendliness. After all it’s Visit Malaysia Year 2026. People don’t always come here to see cities. They come to feel something. I hope they really felt it. Follow for more human stories like this.

🇲🇾 Hamas Delegation Meets Malaysian Deputy PM, Reviews Gaza Negotiations A Hamas delegation concluded an official visit to Malaysia on Saturday, meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi alongside government officials, party representatives, and civil society groups, according to a Hamas press release. The delegation — led by Political Bureau member Dr. Bassem Naim and senior leader Fawzi Barhoum — discussed the latest developments in Gaza ceasefire negotiations, the humanitarian situation in the Strip, Israeli settlement expansion and annexation in the West Bank, the closure of Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, and conditions facing Palestinian prisoners. Hamas said the meetings were “highly positive” and reflected Malaysia’s “firm stance” in support of Palestinian rights. The visit is part of broader Hamas efforts to shore up political and diplomatic support across Muslim-majority countries amid ongoing negotiations with mediators over Phase 2 of the ceasefire agreement.

Indonesia, no. Don't start. 70 - 80% ships passing main transit via Malaysia anyway. Leave Strait of Malacca alone. SEA need no freedom. Let SEAblings fight over nonsense stuff but not on the major 25 - 30% global trade chokepoint 😩

Today I Learned: There is actually a documented constitutional process to remove a Yang di-Pertuan Besar in Negeri Sembilan. I went to look up how this is actually supposed to work. Back to my Negeri Sembilan is the only Malaysian state where the ruler is elected, not hereditary. The Yang di-Pertuan Besar is chosen by the four Undang Luak from Sungai Ujong, Jelebu, Johol, and Rembau. This tradition goes back to 1773 and follows Minangkabau adat perpatih. The state constitution is called Undang-Undang Tubuh Kerajaan Negeri Sembilan 1959 or UUTKNS. Article 10 of the UUTKNS gives the four Undang Luak a prerogative power to suspend or remove the Yang di-Pertuan Besar on specific grounds. The grounds listed are breach of Syariah law, conviction of a criminal offence, being of unsound mind, contravening the state constitution, or being deemed no longer fit for the position. Articles 10 to 12 govern the overall process. Any such action has to go through the Dewan Keadilan dan Undang or DKU. That is the Council of the Yang di-Pertuan Besar and Ruling Chiefs. Now, on the current situation. Per statements from Menteri Besar, the state government's position is that the declaration read by Mubarak Dohak is not recognised. The reasoning cited is that Mubarak was himself allegedly removed as Undang Luak Sungai Ujong effective 13 May 2025 for 33 alleged offences related to pesaka and adat Telaga Undang, Waris Klana Hulu. The Dewan Keadilan dan Undang reportedly convened a special sitting at Istana Besar Seri Menanti on 17 April 2026, chaired by Tuanku Muhriz, and accepted Mubarak's removal under Clause 14(3) of the UUTKNS. Since the constitutional power to invoke Articles 10 to 12 sits with a sitting Undang, the state government says the declaration has no legal standing. Is there precedent for removing an Undang? Yes. According to the MB's statement, the 14th Undang Luak Johol, Datuk Mohammad Jan Abdul Ghani, was dismissed on 27 March 2016 for 13 offences related to Luak Johol customs. That also went through the DKU. Is there precedent for actually removing a Yang di-Pertuan Besar using Article 10? Based on publicly available records, no. The mechanism exists on paper but has not been used in modern history. There have been succession disputes before. One more interesting detail. The process for removing a Yang di-Pertuan Agong at federal level, set out in the Third Schedule of the Federal Constitution, was reportedly modelled partly on this Negeri Sembilan system. The Conference of Rulers has similar prerogative powers nationally as the Undang Yang Empat have at state level. TIL Malaysia's oldest elected monarchy has a 66-year-old written rulebook for almost every scenario, including this one.
BFM News@NewsBFM

Three of Negeri Sembilan's four Undangs, who collectively elect the Yang di-Pertuan Besar, are reportedly attempting to remove incumbent ruler Tuanku Muhriz Almarhum Tuanku Munawir. The move was initiated by the Undang of Sungai Ujong, Mubarak Thahak, following his removal from office last Friday over 33 alleged breaches of customary and hereditary duties. 🧵1

@cessonmute In some Chinese malls, there's a phone number posted in the bathroom stalls. If your period starts unexpectedly, you can call the number and someone brings you a free pad. (Caveat: Even though I've seen this, I've never tried calling the number.)

Idk if this is a fun fact, but Malaysia is one of the trending destinations for Japanese students who want to go to university abroad Malaysia is very affordable, tuition is cheap, safety and living conditions are decent, and most importantly English is commonly spoken, so many students just choose Malaysia over the more traditional destinations like the United States or Europe. I always get posters and brochures of Malaysian Universities, and there is a information session and events specifically for Malaysian Universities that interested high schoolers can attend

Malaysia dropped the banger “Malaysia truly Asia” 30 years ago and proceeded to do absolutely nothing about tourism ever since. Never been to a country less concerned with attracting tourists than Malaysia. They are so self-sufficient (also economically) they just don’t care. No one is simping for tourists, just generally friendly, soft-spoken, relaxed, and polite people. Incredibly underrated country.

Now Trump is going after the Pope. He says "I don't want a Pope who thinks it's OK for Iran to have a nuclear weapon." However, Pope Leo XIV has called for a world "free from the nuclear threat." This is gaslighting and straw-manning and everyone should be able to recognize this. Those in power need to grow a backbone and start calling it out for what it is.

A man in Malaysia was asking strangers for coins, but the most unexpected gift he got that day came from an elephant. He was sitting with a cup in front of him when an elephant happened to walk by and seemed to pause for a moment, almost like it was trying to understand what it was seeing. Then, about an hour later, the elephant came back. This time, it walked up to the man and dropped something into his cup. But it was not money. The elephant had filled the cup with water, as if it thought the man was thirsty and was trying to help the only way it knew how. The man was left stunned for a second, then laughed and thanked the elephant for the strange but surprisingly thoughtful gift.
