When I was a public school teacher, I struggled to make ends meet. 40% of Texas teachers work a second job. Thousands are leaving the profession to find work that can pay the bills. Today I’m introducing legislation to give every teacher in Texas a $15,000 pay raise. #txlege

My class absolutely loved their special gifts. This year I made the girls a doll that looks like them. The boys all got ocean animals. Their reaction brought tears to my eyes. I love being their teacher @TomballISD @TISDCFES Thank you @Raul8Fonseca for your help!

@libertarianJD @teachbk No… we don’t get paid for not working. The pay we get over the summer is money that’s taken out of our checks during the school year. So our biweekly pay is really less bc they pull money out and put it aside to pay us over the summer. So give me a break with that comment.

@teachbk You get paid for 2+ months of not working.

Someone (not in education) was surprised to hear that teachers have to set up their own classrooms. She thought we had someone to do that for us and we just walk in the first day and start teaching. I had to explain it takes days of prep + physical labor. And we don’t get paid.

@teachbk Annnnd… we pay for all the decor out of our own pockets. We aren’t given a budget or money from our districts. Not that I’m complaining… just saying how it is! Lots of peeps just assume all that cuteness is paid for by someone else. Well yeah… that someone else is me!
