Thread: 1. Early this morning I lost my partner of 22 years and the love of my life. A partner, a daughter, a sister and sister in law, auntie, friend, music enthusiast, sci-fi geek, homelessness expert, tattoo fan and AFC supporter.

@eleanormharris Great thread Eleanor. This closure just feels so WRONG - completely contrary to the need for efficient small-medium scale wood-processing to support efficient, small-medium scale forestry. Let's hope it can be saved by someone who sees its potential.

Keepers of Time - the UK government's policy on ancient and native #woodland - has been updated ☺️ Back in 2005, developing the original policy consumed my whole life for a year - so fab to see it living on and delivering for people and nature 🌱🌳💚 assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/upl…

Despite the avalanche of clean-up work required in the aftermath of Storm Arwen, there are still plenty of important operations going on. These images are from above the A83. This is the first step towards planting on this vulnerable hillside which will, help bind the slope.

@FlyingQuercus I'm going to have nightmares for weeks - my dissertation title was "the market potential for high-welfare pigmeat". I think the app is vegan 😳

@Marcpalahi Marc I could almost hear your voice when I heard him say 'leveraging the bio-economy' yesterday! Let's hope this is really gaining traction now.

@ktmcnl @scotgovireland @coilltenews Definitely 🙂 A couple of us are due a visit soon as we have joint interests across a range of matters inc. R&D. I think @mrsjo has also been doing work recently in Ireland advising them on better forestry regulation & the learning from work in Scotland. 🇮🇪 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 🌳🌲

Looking for a book that's now out of print: gave my personal copy to the new CEO of the @ForestryComm on his visit a couple of weeks ago and can't find a replacement! If you see one or know where to get a copy, please let me know. 🌳🌲🙏

The first meeting concentrated on Scotland’s Forestry Strategy and in particular how all the sectors can work collectively in delivering the Strategy’s Implementation Plan. We’d like to thank everyone for taking part – it was a very lively and constructive meeting. 👍🌳🌲

Great to have @MairiMcAllan setting the scene for the first National Forestry Stakeholder Group meeting today. She's passionate about our sector contributing towards NetZero, economy & biodiversity and highlighted how important it is to take communities with us along the way.

Asking the Royal Family to rewild their estates is quite literally the most perfect showcase of the rewilding movement's inability to comprehend the land question. theguardian.com/environment/20…

@pippa_hackett Loads of learning from @tweed_forum on this - they've done tremendous work over many years in the Scottish Borders, including on the ecosystem approach and stakeholder engagement.

Buffer strips with native trees can protect watercourses from sediment & nutrient flow, stabilise river banks, and reduce flood risk, as well as providing climatic controls for aquatic life. This is in addition to many other co-benefits such as carbon capture & habitat creation.
Irish Wildlife Trust@Irishwildlife

This is very positive, but we need to be thinking more in terms of restoring river ecosystems rather than just planting trees independent.ie/business/farmi…

@TheICF Great work Shireen - getting the profession's voice heard in the right places. This 'quiet politics' may not get much coverage, but it's what eventually secures meaningful, long-term change.

ICF Executive Director Shireen Chambers MBE FICFor recently gave evidence to this EFRA committee. Shireen championed careers in forestry but highlighted the critical skills gaps at all levels across land-based sectors. You can watch the session here: bit.ly/2PrbLD0

We heard yesterday about the case for a stronger national strategy for land-based education, and ensuring that there are local colleges able to deliver it. We'll be writing to the Government to press them on what they are doing 👇 committees.parliament.uk/committee/52/e…
