Here's a longread I wrote for the @LRB on the waxing & waning fortunes of an Ayrshire seaside town (my hometown, Prestwick) & how the restoration of its 1930s cinema designed by Ramsay MacDonald's son might help restore the glamour. lrb.co.uk/the-paper/v46/… lrb.co.uk/the-paper/v46/…

As someone who’s always lived in and around Edinburgh and who has quite the love/hate relationship with festival season, t’was a delight to be commissioned to write a wee festival inspired story for @BBCRadio4 Short Works programme. Tune in Aug 16, 3.45pm bbc.co.uk/programmes/m00…

TODAY!!! 15.45 on @BBCRadio4. Huge thanks to Anne Lacey (of Hamish Macbeth fame!) for her beautiful reading of my story and to @mrssvenotron for producing it! 📻🎧📚😍

Thrilled to have a short story on @BBCRadio4 soon! 'Everlasting Light' tells the story of a physics teacher on her retirement day. You can listen in on 26th July and then on @BBCiPlayer 🎧📚🧡 bbc.co.uk/programmes/m00…

@dotterel Hi Tim, the music used throughout 'For Thy Great Pain...' is a track called "Ave Generosa" composed by Hildegard Von Bingen. It's from Choral & Sacred 1, a Best 4 Classical album.

@mrssvenotron Thanks. I did have a look on the website and BBC Sounds but it only credits the actors and adapters… and yourself, of course.

@mrssvenotron hi, just listened to the excellent adaptation of "For Thy Great Pains...", fabulous radio and so true to the book. Quick question: where does the music come from, and who's singing? Thanks!

The only reason Deerhoof can afford to continue is bare-bones touring, one crew, tiny equipment, self-produced records, and we didn't have kids. Even so, our income hovers near the poverty line every year. I don't understand how newer artists do it. theguardian.com/music/2024/apr…

I cannot emphasise just how devastating the proposed @GlasgowCC cuts to @mcrpathways Coordinators will be if they go ahead. They provide unique, dedicated & crucial support to the young, care-experienced mentees (& mentors too, of which I'm one). Pls sign! mcrpathways.org/save-mcr-glasg…

I should add this book to my illustrator collection for #NationalIllustrationDay the Reader’s Digest Book of British Birds. Such beautiful illustrations and I confess I don’t even know who the illustrator is. I loved and still love this book so much.

You think about what that paper did to Liverpool. What it said about the people who’d been killed. That paper doesn’t give a fuck about you or the truth or justice. That paper cares about power.
