Christopher Nolan is reported to be using Emily Wilson's WOKE translation of "The Odyssey," which was hailed as "the first full English version BY A WOMAN." Those last 3 words are the exact problem. She didn't translate it as a scholar. She translated it as a person who hates men and what they stand for. In other words, she DESECRATED it. Right off the bat, she translates the first line “Sing to me of the man, Muse, the man of twists and turns…” as "Tell me about a complicated man." She frames Odysseus as a flawed, morally gray figure and emphasizes his deception, manipulation, infidelity, and brutality rather than romanticizing his heroism. She presents Circe as a powerful goddess and dangerous host, not as a sexual predator. She emphasizes the imbalance of power between Calypso and Odysseus more clearly, making the situation feel closer to male captivity than romance. She tones down the “female evil” of Scylla that some older translators used. She makes The Sirens eerie and intelligent rather than hyper-sexualized erotic manipulators. She highlights the maids’ youth and vulnerability and emphasizes they were coerced and raped, rather than complicit. And she gives Penelope more intellectual sharpness and agency. So if this is the version Nolan shot, he's not making "Homer's Odyssey": He's making the live-action version of "Homer Simpson's Odyssey."

A few hours ago we received the most earth-shattering news that our 20 year old son, Evan Roberts Locke, could not be revived after his heart stopped due to an overdose. His struggle was very public. It was used as a warning to many, a punchline to the haters but an overall reminder that even in our deepest pain, the grace of Jesus will sustain us. I’ll address the church family with arrangement details this Sunday. Please respect our privacy. He has 5 heartbroken siblings and a world of people that helped him along his journey.

Look at Narges Mohammadi’s children. Their mother spent most of their lives in prison and now, the regime is slowly killing her. In the 21st century, the people with guns fear a woman with words. Iranian Nobel Peace Prize laureate is in a life-threatening crisis inside Evin Prison. Her blood pressure has plummeted to 9 over 4, a level dangerously incompatible with life. She is unable to speak. Doctors are administering emergency medication to keep her alive, but her condition remains critically unstable and requires urgent, definitive medical intervention. I call on every world leader, every human rights body, every Nobel committee, and every government that has ever spoken the word "democracy", act now, not after her funeral. Demand the regime that waging open war on unarmed women and men to free Narges Mohammadi before it is too late.
