🤦 Every musician’s worst nightmare: you sit down to play a concerto, and the orchestra starts a completely different piece… 😮 That’s what happened to Maria João Pires in 1999, when she stepped in at the last minute to replace another pianist. Incredibly, she quickly adjusted and performed Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 20— not the No. 23 she had prepared—playing flawlessly with Riccardo Chailly and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. 🤦
