Throughout my years as a principal, as I have encountered kiddos with selective mutism, I couldn’t help but become frustrated- Not frustrated with the student but more that I could not “cure” their anxiety. Why can’t I help them talk? How can we collaboratively support the student? Why isn’t there more research? We have had success stories….some stories are still being written…..
