@AyannaSimmons20 i think this is a really interesting point. it’s also interesting to examine this point from a socioeconomic standpoint; affluent young women can have children young with less stigma, but lower-income women are seen as irresponsible or sexually promiscuous

I chose the stigma of young motherhood. People assume just because you’re young you’re not capable of being a good parent. The crisis could be sexual health bc of unprotected sex. The message makes it seems that u can’t have a fulfilling life if you have kids

@CharekaHawkMU @ChandrikaCC i totally agree with this! this issue is so layered. but in general, it’s never good when a person feels they can’t be honest about their mental illness for fear of repercussions.

@Strader32 @ChandrikaCC i agree with you on the importance of expressing empathy. there are so many school shootings that cut and dry facts of each occurrence don’t cut through the noise. people have to be reminded that every life lost is a tragedy and unacceptable.

@DamianD153 i think you’re right, action is the most important thing in this case. in today’s times, we’re all rather used to seeing stories about natural disasters. without a call to action, they can become background noise.

Promoting action is most important here. There needs to be immediate action towards the response effort and preventing future dams failures from similar events since storms of this nature are becoming more common #CERCPrinciples #MUCrisisComma

Here is an article that discusses two dam failures in Michigan that led to massive floods that forced residents in the area to evacuate. The article discusses how aging dams built over 60+ years ago were not meant for todays weather nbcnews.com/news/us-news/t…

@marybrooksmu @ChandrikaCC empathy is a great skill in general and so key for outrage management! if people don’t feel heard, it only exacerbates the amount of outrage.

Of Sandman’s four types of risk communication, I would choose to head the Outrage Management department. This is low hazard but high outrage. I am an empathetic listener and would be able to listen to their concerns and respond accordingly. @ChandrikaCC #Reaction2

@MorganKohr @ChandrikaCC I think that experience would greatly help you in stakeholder relations, as that back-and-forth and making sure people feel listened to is paramount.

@ChandrikaCC In regards to Sandman’s four types of risk communication, I choose to be in charge of stakeholder relations: moderate hazard/outrage. I see my experience with interpersonal communication would ensure an open and rational delivery. #Reaction2

@ChandrikaCC I would like to be in charge of public relations. I understand the apathy can be a barrier to overcome, but welcome the challenge of getting an audience’s attention. #Reaction2

@MorganKohr @ChandrikaCC this is a great example, i also chose org as the most relevant factor. if an organization is operating optimally, they’re certainly better prepared for a “crisi like the last snowstorm— which, not to negate, but we all know MO has seen much worse.

In my opinion, issues and reputation management prioritizes social responsibility which is of utmost importance when navigating crisis today. Look at MODOT reviewing labor policy after not having sufficient snow crews. @ChandrikaCC #CriticalFactor #MUCrisisComm

@ChandrikaCC the most relevant critical factor today is organizational. so many crises are caused by poor management of internal resources and organizational dysfunction. ex: the hyatt bridge in KC was due to miscommunication and internal factors. #criticalfactor #mucrisiscomm
