The value of OL assistant Alex Gerke can’t be understated. Gerke and Jordan Gross combine should have Utah’s OL ready after the key departures. Don’t sleeping this position group. With all of his years coaching, Gerke isn’t your typical assistant position coach.

When the university chose to move in a different direction, we negotiated a separation agreement in good faith and fully complied with every term. At all times, Coach Whittingham acted professionally and in a manner consistent with both the terms and the spirit of the agreement. That agreement did not prohibit Coach Whittingham from pursuing future coaching opportunities or engaging with coaches and staff, beyond the specific and limited restrictions that were expressly included. The Whittingham family cherishes his 32 consecutive seasons leading the University of Utah and will forever have a deep appreciation for the student-athletes and the Utah community. They are grateful for the loyalty and passion of the fans, which have been a constant throughout their time. The relationships they built and the experiences they shared will always be meaningful to them.”

@skitch_ @EyeOnUtah @AMarkham_UN How did Utah jerk him around? He totally went against the transition plan he helped create and decided he wanted more money as well. He supposed to leave after ‘24. Then ‘25. Then he wants two more years and more money?

@EyeOnUtah @AMarkham_UN I agree. His legacy is tarnished with the way he left. Whitt had plenty of opportunities to leave but he chose to stay. Then Utah jerks him around one last time and he says enough. I am excited to see what Scalley can do but he is going to get jerked around too eventually.

Knowing everything I know, I don’t think Kyle Whittingham is going to win this dispute. I actually highly respect Utah for even giving him that $8 million. Could Utah have handled the split better? Sure. But it goes for both sides. (1/2)

Went against the plan when he returned last year and then went against it again when he tried to stay two more years for more money. How do you defend Whitt with that?

@kslsports @therealutahutes @KSLSportsZone So KW wanted to return to Utah. Utah said fine, but you won't actually be the head coach and set these ridiculous guidelines. He chose to step down and landed the Michigan job. The coaches who followed him weren't forced…and maybe just maybe some left BECAUSE of Harlan.
