7th graders are tracking Jonas’ character development & change in attitude toward his community throughout The Giver. They are citing text evidence to create collaborative timelines & using @padlet to record their conclusions. Will he finally rebel against the community? 💭🤔

Today, students practiced their ability to “see beyond”, as part of our novel study of The Giver 🍎👀

From one powerful novel to many (new) powerful poems…and art! 📝🎨 As always, I am amazed by these students’ talent & creativity in showcasing significant moments in The Outsiders in their own insightful ways!

Students used @canva to write letters from the perspective of Ponyboy to his brother Sodapop & news articles from the perspective of a reporter on scene of the church fire in The Outsiders. They then shared & discussed their designs in small groups.🗞️✉️

7th graders are getting excited for The Outsiders! Yesterday, they generated predictions about the text after an analysis of Gwendolyn Brook’s “We Real Cool”. Today, they added to those predictions after learning about the characters, setting, and author in this station rotation.
