Exactly. The shuttle was “reusable” but required so much refurbishment that it cost more than expandable rockets. F9’s reusability enabled much lower prices and higher cadences. That’s why F9 flew more in 2025 alone than the Space Shuttle flew in its entire 30y service history.

NEWS: NASA is planning a bigger @SpaceX Moon mission role using Starship, in a massive blow to Boeing.
With the new proposal, Boeing's SLS would no longer be used to boost Orion close to the moon. @SawyerMerritt @farzyness So I assume someone at @Tesla is working out how to increase viable yield. This is an area the other fabs haven’t spent enough time on. The “too much money” syndrome makes them lax in areas where Tesla can take advantage.
