The latest report from Statistics Canada on uptake of the Disability Tax Credit (DTC) confirms that the percentage of people with disabilities who are approved for the DTC is shockingly low – just 15.6%. There are lots of reasons for the low uptake – the complex application form and other barriers to approval, as well as a feeling that for people living on low incomes who may not owe taxes, a tax credit just isn’t worth it. However, the DTC is a crucial gateway benefit for other government programs such as the Registered Disability Savings Plan (RDSP) and the upcoming Canada Disability Benefit (CDB). Not being approved for the DTC can mean missing out on funds and supports you are entitled to. Plan Institute is working to help as many people as possible access the DTC ahead of the release of the CDB this summer. Today all hurdles have been passed - the CDB will start paying out in July. With all the chaos in Canada, politically, I’m so grateful that all the behind the scenes people got it together so that this is going to happen! 5 years of hard work from a lot of people! Phew!

There is an aggressor: Russia. There is a victim: Ukraine. We were right to help Ukraine and sanction Russia three years ago—and to keep doing so. By “we,” I mean the Americans, the Europeans, the Canadians, the Japanese, and many others. Thank you to all who have helped and continue to do so. And respect to those who have been fighting since the beginning—because they are fighting for their dignity, their independence, their children, and the security of Europe.
