📍Happening now in Gweru ZIMCODD, in partnership with the Gweru Residents & Ratepayers Association, is convening a multistakeholder conversation on fiscal policies. In my framing of the conversation, the purpose of the engagement is to ask hard questions about how Zimbabwe’s fiscal policies, tax system and debt management shape the daily lives of women and girls and to agree on what must change. Why does this matter: 1. Debt is crowding out public services as over 20% of government revenue goes towards debt servicing 2. The country’s revenue mix is largely regressive as it relies heavily on consumption taxes such as VAT, IMTT and excise duties. 3. Women are hit harder because of the roles they carry in the informal sector and as primary caregivers. 4. Gender blind reforms are deepening inequality while social protection remains largely underfunded. This meeting therefore is about closing that gap, moving from fiscal policy that ignores gender to fiscal policy that advances gender justice. Because budgets are not neutral and neither are their impacts.

Tomorrow, @ZIMCODD1 in collaboration with Gweru Residents & Ratepayers Association convenes a multi-stakeholder dialogue bringing together government, Parliament, civil society, and community voices to engage on fiscal policies, tax reforms, and social protection in Zimbabwe. As the economic landscape continues to evolve, this platform creates space for constructive dialogue, shared learning, and practical solutions with a focus on ensuring policies are inclusive and responsive to the realities of women and communities. The conversation aims to: • Strengthen understanding of current fiscal dynamics • Explore pathways for progressive and balanced tax reforms • Support more responsive and sustainable social protection systems A timely conversation towards inclusive and people-centered policy development. #FiscalPolicy #SocialProtection #GenderEquality #EconomicInclusion #mtw4w

ZIMCODD facilitated a Follow the Money training workshop in Mutare focused on strengthening community capacity to understand and track financial flows in the extractive sector. As part of its broader work on economic literacy and public financial management, the session unpacked how mining revenues through taxes, royalties and levies are generated, allocated, and ultimately experienced at community level. Participants engaged with practical tools for budget tracking, social accountability and citizen engagement to promote transparency and equitable benefit-sharing. This initiative contributes to advancing improved economic governance, equality and social justice, ensuring that natural resource wealth translates into meaningful community development in Manicaland. This workshop was conducted in collaboration with @CNRG_ZIM

Our Programmes Manager @muchamidzi is representing the Zimcodd at the 5th Africa Disrupt CSW70 in Accra, Ghana. This important continental forum brings together feminist leaders, civil society actors, and advocates from Central, Eastern, Southern, Western, and North Africa ahead of the 70th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women. Under the theme “Centering Justice, Ensuring Equality for African Women and Girls,” the convening is advancing dialogue on transformative legal and policy reforms, feminist approaches to justice and accountability, and strengthening collective action to eliminate systemic barriers and gender-based violence. ZIMCODD’s participation reflects our continued commitment to advancing economic justice, gender equality, and inclusive policy reforms, while ensuring that African women and girls are at the centre of conversations on development, public finance, and governance. #AfricaDisruptCSW70 #GenderJustice #EconomicJustice #ZIMCODD #CSW70

Zimbabwe’s public debt is now at US$23.4 billion. That’s a lot for a country already feeling the heat. Youth are asking, “so what does this mean for us?” #bhoohere

Young people are fascinated by how ecological debt, climate justice, and national debt intersect and today’s session brought these connections to life. Participants engaged in Module 3: Youth Leadership in Ecological Debt – The Debt & Climate Justice Nexus, facilitated by Dr. Abel Sibanda from @ActionAidZim. This insightful module highlighted the critical role young people must play in advancing accountability, sustainability, and climate-responsive development. Dr. Sibanda also encouraged participants to adopt a systems perspective, emphasising that meaningful solutions require understanding how social, economic, and environmental factors are interconnected. Key takeaways highlighted ecological debt as a justice issue, how debt burdens weaken climate resilience, the importance of youth leadership in shaping fair climate policies, and the urgency of advocating for systems that prioritise people and the planet.
