Together with the setup's blue-prints by @NanoSand_Alice pubs.acs.org/doi/abs/10.102… and the simulation framework royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/10.1098/rs… there's now quite a bit of detail on how to use DMDs in SIM applications.

It is an alternative to the very nice approach of P. Brown et al. (@DougPShepherd, @ptbrown1729), where they use a voice coil mirror to slightly adjust the angle instead of shifting the laser wavelength: osapublishing.org/boe/fulltext.c…

Our third (and for now last...) paper on DMD-SIM, where we use temperature control of a diode laser to tweak its wavelength to match the DMD's blazed grating. doi.org/10.1364/OE.437…

@DougPShepherd @RetoPaul @christlet @NikonInst Currently not, though I wonder why... I'll talk to my collaborators next week and see if there's any reason to not share the code on github and/or Zenodo, where the data already is available.

@RetoPaul @christlet @NikonInst This compares two different network layouts (U-NET and RED-NET), and running the full reconstruction vs. only using the network for denoising and artifact removal after a "classic" reconstruction. Still hope to find someone to bundle this into a ready-to-use Fiji plugin.

@RetoPaul @christlet @NikonInst We use the coarse(r) patterns to fill the missing cone in 2D SIM, but in a collaboration we've also tried enhancing SIM data with neural networks lately, and see quite promising results on low-SNR data. osapublishing.org/prj/fulltext.c…

@HenriquesLab I'd be happy with my current position (senior postdoc/staff scientist) being permanent. But since that's not possible, I pursue both an academic path (if it works out) or joining the industry. I don't have a strong preference which one it will be, currently doing both.

To colleagues that followed an #academic #research career. Did you at any point stop and took a long critical view if this is really what you want(ed)? Did that process help you feel more assertive about your path or less? Asking for a lecture

Qualitatively yes, cooling will help a lot with noise, quantitatively I think we might have even tested this (Peltier, cooling the housing), I'll try to find whoever might have that data.

SuperPeople, what's your current favourite non-cooled inexpensive #camera for #SuperResolution (SMLM)? Flir, blackflies, what have you tried and did a surprisingly good job? @DrBrianPatton @mueller_physics @RetoPaul what's your take? CCing @Hannah_SuperRes and @LaineBioImaging

@mindnumbed @beniroquai @LaineBioImaging @HenriquesLab @DrBrianPatton @RetoPaul @Hannah_SuperRes We're currently looking into how much calibrating these cameras ourselves (per pixel gain curves, etc.) might improve performance. Though the project is a bit on the side burner currently.

@mindnumbed @beniroquai @LaineBioImaging @HenriquesLab @DrBrianPatton @RetoPaul @Hannah_SuperRes For sCMOS, manufacturer calibration is a really big effect, but for the more cost-effective machine vision type cameras we never looked at this, and I'd also not expect there to be a significant difference.
