Enjoyed this conversation with @Alberto_Lidji If you are in the philanthropy / dev sector, would love to hear your thoughts on some of the topics we discussed about #philanthropy
Veddis Foundation@VeddisImpact

Listen to @muruganv speak to @Alberto_Lidji about our work, trust-based philanthropy, and the need for a high bar for evidence of impact in societal problem solving. #philanthropy #socialimpact lidji.org/post/murugan-v…

@vbhandari1 No. Dazn seems to be the only option although reviews about their toxic business practices means I'll not download it. Btw, the superbowl is on star sports 1. My question was whether it's also on Hotstar.

#Trump is threatening #India's exports. A smart response would be to make #tourism a big dollar earner. Earnings can go up to $100bn from current $28bn. Plus, expanded tourism can create 2.5mn direct #jobs. I write with @swagatoganguly for @timesofindia.
The Convergence Foundation@TCFtweet

#Opinion | #India punches well below its weight in global #tourism with just 1.4% share of foreign #tourists. To realise this potential, India needs a three-way strategy. @AshishDhawanTCF and @swagatoganguly write for @timesofindia. Read the full article now!

@deepakshenoy @zenx This chart shows that income dropped significantly (28%) between 2016 and 2021 for only one group - the bottom 50% - and that's the majority of Indians. Therein probably lies the reason for a lot of the pushback you are getting Deepak.

I think I'm firmly on the side of people wanting to be billionaires. Which means I'm for wealth inequality, in some sense. in general even if the rich get richer, a lot of the poor get richer too but not as much. Money isn't meant to be distributed, it's meant to be spent. It's spending that creates wealth. With more spending comes more opportunities to create and make better. With that are new ideas, and new entrepreneurs and this, new wealth. Which is further spent, and so on. The reason india feels better now in terms of general wealth is that the rich of the earlier generation hoarded their money, and kept it in the family. The new rich spend it, and generate money and wealth for others. This is an India that will distribute wealth but not by design, but because we have reduced our insane saving rates and are spending instead. This is on the back of inequality, by definition as you want to get richer as there are more avenues to spend, and people a notch lower in economic status want to become you. The only Equalizer is death. There is no greater truth than that we will not take it away with us, we are all the same at the end. But till then, progress will come on the back of an unequal wealth society (economically, only. The caste system is horrible)

@acorn @ainvvy there were other ways to send a strong signal while maintaining integrity to institutional process. egs - it could have been approved with a first tranche immediately released but future tranches conditional upon de-escalation. it's naive to think there weren't other options, no?

@ainvvy The vote is after long institutional & bureaucratic process…took years. So unlikely that they would reject the package now. I won’t read too much into it.

The IMF voting shows that India is not quite where it thinks it is. US/France/Germany/UK/Saudi/China/Japan are (some of) the countries that have dedicated seats. Not one stood by India. Sobering.

@mohitjandwani @WFRising 33-50% of London commuters take the bus. Safe comfortable and frequent buses are the cheapest public transit option there is. It's a no brainer decision for any city.

@WFRising Not sure about buses. Name one city in the world where buses solved traffic problems ?

The flyover that was supposed to solve all the traffic problems. While we do absolutely need to build roads when population increases and private vehicle numbers go up, there has been an obstinate focus to ONLY build roads to keep up. - Suburban Rail has been languishing in the plan mode for 40+ years! - Metro while awesome, is slow to address the different parts of the city - We need 15,000 buses on the road on a hub & spoke model, but have been managing with ~6000 every day with Majestic being the center point of it all. There is no better way to provide last mile connectivity than buses But hey, flyovers, tunnel roads continue to be the goal. More roads we build, the more the private vehicle numbers will increase. No amount of lanes will be enough. Thats reality.

Completely Jammed from past 1.5 hrs in the #electroniccity flyover. I must have reached my home now which is 30kms away. Logged out at 5:20 and we are still stuck! We can see most of the employees of various companies frustrated and starting to walk. @madivalatrfps

@ShamikaRavi Disagree with your first explanation. If there is a genuine need markets will find a way to upskill / reskill these graduates, no? And pay them enough to get them out of their homes?
