@mjpriest1304 A parent survey prior to the program roll out would have been easier than walking it back.

An open letter to the Mount Dora Christian Academy community (MDCA). I am the proud father of three MDCA students - Collin (‘23), Ethan (‘25) and Jonathan (‘26). For those that do not know, MDCA is a small private Christian school in Mount Dora, FL.
I am writing to discuss the recent move to ban all communication devices at MDCA. All devices must be locked up from the time you enter the campus to the time you leave - during the school day.
This is my opinion and mine alone.
MDCA needs a Common Sense mobile device policy - it is as easy as - place your phone in a bin at the start of class. No use during class. There are max 20 students per class. Every student has a phone. Make sure all phones are in the bin. Discipline those that use phones during class. MDCA recent decision to fully restricting all communication devices is draconian and short sighted. It is not what is best for the students of MDCA and reeks of incompetent leadership seeking to rule over students.
1.MDCA (re)established its credibility and culture during Covid. Implementing NO mandates. NO masks. Personal choice. The freedom to choose and be intelligent about the choices. MDCA was 100% right in their decision making and a model for what America should have done. That is why we chose MDCA. The new policy is the exact opposite of this approach.
2.The current version of the cell phone (mobile device) is the most powerful personal device ever created for learning. AI, advanced learning, chat, large language models, the internet (crazy I even need to say it) - they can all be used for good. As an example, you can record lectures - stay focused on the lecture - and receive lecture notes and summaries - all AI generated. Imagine Bill Gates and Paul Allen not having access to the computer in middle school? It shaped the world we live in today. Access is required. I would have the policy of no cell phone during classes unless they are required. Keep the phone in your bag or pocket.
3.It is not my job to parent your child nor should my child be punished for your child’s lack of discipline. If your child cannot put their cell phone away and learn - you should discipline them, teachers should discipline them. They should suffer the consequences. Not my child.
4.MDCA is an open campus - like a small college campus. Students should be free to use their phones between classes - on their time. This also raises major security concerns for a campus that lacks proper security to begin with.

@AnthonyBass52 @united Nope, I had three kids & if had to be asked to clean up after them-I would be embarrassed of my own behavior. Not the right example being set here.

Going to be a great week for sports in Boston. I have two tickets to the @usopengolf, tickets to the @RedSox game and this signed bag for one lucky Boston fan. Retweet to win.

@TMZ_Sports Not sure why the constant adding/changing of uniforms ever became a thing…it’s baseball… not a fashion show or place for politics.

Tampa Bay Rays players refused to wear the Gay Pride logo on their uniforms this weekend -- saying their religious beliefs wouldn't allow it, but also saying they accept everyone. tmz.com/2022/06/05/tam…
