Yesterday’s discussion focused on one of the biggest infrastructure moments in @base 's history : Base Azul Mainnet is Live - The Upgrade That Changes Everything. Base Azul officially went live on mainnet. And this is not just another small chain update. It is Base’s first major move toward operating on a far more customized, optimized and independent stack instead of relying completely on the standard OP Stack model most L2s still follow. The core idea behind Azul is simple: @base rebuilt large parts of its foundation to gain tighter control over performance, security, scalability and future iteration speed. One of the biggest upgrades inside Azul is the new multiproof system. Base now runs both TEE proofs and ZK proofs together. In simple terms, instead of relying on a single security path, the chain now uses two independent verification systems simultaneously. That matters because an attacker would theoretically need to break multiple security layers at the same time. For users, that means stronger security guarantees. For institutions, it means a much more serious trust model. And for the future, it creates the groundwork for faster withdrawals back to Ethereum. We also spent time understanding the new infrastructure stack itself. Base now operates with its own optimized execution client "base-reth-node" and a new consensus layer based on Kona. This is important because Base is no longer just running a generic configuration built for everyone else. They are tuning the chain specifically for Base’s own needs. The performance improvements already look meaningful : Higher sustained throughput, dramatically reduced empty blocks, faster syncing and smoother overall chain operation. That matters a lot for the kinds of things Base cares about most: stablecoins, AI agents, DeFi, payments, consumer apps, RWAs and high-frequency onchain activity. Another underrated part of the discussion was the engineering story behind Azul. This upgrade was not a quick patch. Base shipped 20+ new binaries and major components across execution, consensus, monitoring, proving systems, node operations and security infrastructure. The whole process took roughly 92 days of heavy engineering work, hundreds of PRs and extensive testing before mainnet deployment. That level of infrastructure ownership is still relatively uncommon among L2s. We also connected Azul directly back to many ecosystem themes we have explored over the last 42 days. Stablecoins and liquidity benefit because higher throughput + lower empty block rates improve consistency for large USDC movement, trading activity and liquidity depth. DeFi protocols like Aerodrome, Morpho, Moonwell and others gain a stronger foundation for lending, trading, liquidations and automated strategies. The "agent economy" may actually be one of the biggest winners. We already discussed MCP and x402 recently. Azul strengthens that entire stack. Agents need reliable execution, high throughput, lower latency and strong security to operate continuously. The combination of MCP + x402 + Azul starts looking much closer to production-grade infrastructure for autonomous onchain activity. Payments and consumer apps benefit too. More consistent transactions, stronger reliability during peak activity and smoother backend performance matter a lot once the goal shifts from crypto-native users toward broader everyday adoption. We also stayed realistic. Azul is a major step forward, but not the final destination. Base is still moving through a longer journey toward deeper decentralization, stronger proof systems, faster withdrawals and greater stack independence over time. But the bigger takeaway from yesterday felt very clear : Azul is not just a technical upgrade. It is Base making a strong statement about long-term direction. Instead of remaining “another OP Stack chain,” Base is increasingly becoming a chain building, optimizing and owning more of its own infrastructure layer. And that changes the ceiling for everything built on top of it. - Stablecoins. - DeFi. - Agents. - Payments. - RWAs. - Consumer apps. The foundation underneath all of those narratives just became significantly stronger.
