Children don't just need food, clothing and school fees. They need to feel wanted. Home should be the one place where they never have to question whether their presence is welcomed. Yes, parenting is exhausting. Every parent deserves a break. There is nothing wrong with enjoying the return of routine and quiet. But there is a huge difference between appreciating structure and celebrating your child's absence. The words parents casually throw around often become the voices children carry in their heads for years. Perhaps the better message is: "I love having you home, but I'm also happy you're going back to school to learn, grow and spend time with your friends." One celebrates a child's development. The other can unintentionally make a child feel like an inconvenience. Children rarely remember every gift you bought them, but they never forget how your words made them feel.
