This is the shot you can’t get from the press site. This camera was sitting a few football fields from the SLS rocket at Pad 39B for days before launch, baking in the Florida sun, surviving rain, humidity, and whatever else the Cape threw at it. No photographer behind the viewfinder. Just a camera, a sound trigger, and a bet. The way pad remotes work: you set your camera up days in advance, dial in your composition, lock everything down, and walk away. You don’t touch it again until after the launch. The shutter fires on sound activation with a @MiopsTrigger smart+ trigger. With SLS, the four RS-25 engines ignite six seconds before the solid rocket boosters, so the camera is already firing before the vehicle even leaves the pad. You get home, pull the card, and find out if you nailed it or if a bird landed on your lens two days ago and left your a present and you got 400 photos of soemthing crappy. There’s no formula for protecting your gear this close. Some photographers build wooden boxes with doors that pop open. Some use plastic bags and tape. Some do plastic or metal barn door rigs on hinges. I tend to leave mine open just in plastic rain covers because boxes limit my composition and setup time, but that means your cameras are more exposed to the elements and whatever energy and debris comes off the pad. You’re basically gambling a camera body every time you set one. That’s what I love about this genre. There’s no playbook. You make it up as you go. @dshensmith No. I once entered a Belgium cycling event. Liege-Bastogne-liege the weather also turned. The organisers gave the finisher medal at sign on! During the event there was the option to short cut. I knew we had to earn the medal else it was meaningless.

What? If they don’t finish, they’re not a finisher. What am I missing? They will always know they didn’t finish. This is cognitive dissonance at its finest.

So I'm genuinely stuck on something and would really appreciate your thoughts. I've heavily adopted AI as part of my workflow, and it's enabled me to deliver substantially more value for my clients than I've ever been able to in the past. In a fraction of the time. Which leaves me in a bit of a dilemma. I tend to charge by the hour, so I now find myself in a world where my clients are getting significantly more value out of the same hourly rate. Which is great for them, obviously. Less great for me. So what do I do? Do I raise my hourly rate? If I do that, it's going to put people off because they don't realize quite how much I can achieve within an hour now. Do I simply provide more value and pass that time saving on to the client, using it as a competitive advantage? Or do I in some way artificially inflate the number of hours it's taking me to do stuff? Which feels dishonest, frankly. I know everyone tells me I should be using value-based pricing. But with the type of work I do, that's just not particularly feasible. Most of my work is consultative, and it's very hard to judge the value it will deliver because it's all dependent upon how much my advice is actually implemented.
