I don’t think I’ll ever get over the fumble that was WLTO when it comes to the team of Kelly at that time. This quite literally reset her solo career. She had a sound and lane that was all hers. Before the EDM takeover of the 2010s, KELENDRIA TRENE ROWLAND and David Guetta set the tone. I said it then and I say it now: this should have easily followed up with a nightclub tour and album titled ‘When Love Takes Over’ and then, you move into larger theaters but still intimate. As the demand grows, you finish the era in arenas. That’s how big this record really was for Kelly Rowland. The Queen Of Dance crown was all hers. Every performance of WLTO was filled with hunger, sass, energy. It was a renewed sense of self you hadn’t seen Kelly with before. When Kelly Rowland returns to the studio, I still believe she should give us a full Dance album. Kelly X Kaytranada would be elite. ‘Here I Am’ dropping two years after this with a series of false starts and an R&B rebrand wasn’t right. HIA shoulda been a half EDM, half R&B album.

I remember thinking that this would be a really cool thing to do. It was me and one other Black artist who were playing in this alternative R&B box, and it was an absolute no from people behind the scenes — it felt like an absolute no. And going from 'Dilemma' into 'Stole' also kind of made people go, 'Well, why did you do that?' I was nervous about it, but I still did it. I still did it, and it worked overseas, but it was the sacrifice I made to try something new."
