One thing you need to know before visiting is that the beer is served in half-pints only. This rule is relaxed every year on 1st April, when pints are made available. This pub is always busy, full of character, and an absolute must-visit London pub. #soho

I was at newly appointed Sir John Stevens first mass briefing. A Fed Rep stood up during Q&A & said one of his officers, was in hospital desperately ill with cancer & was worried as he was about to go on half pay. Sir John's response was brief. 'Oh no he's not." Next day the stricken PC received a visitor: Sir John Stevens!!

“We are now getting police officers who are terminally-ill who are off their work, who have been injured on duty who are off their work, being told by the service that because of the budget you’ll no longer be kept on pay and you’ll be forced onto half pay or no pay whilst at home." heraldscotland.com/news/25937056.…

@Skip_1_ @obbsie I can’t believe they are recycling him. Hugh Orde would have been much better for the Met.

If anyone thinks this is a good idea they have no idea how BHH ruined the Met. Too busy parading around on a horse then putting the public first. Does the UK Forces need reform? More than likely. Is he the man to do it - Definitely not #UkPolicing #Police #BHH

Spent last hour rummaging in a barn of a friend who rebuilds bikes, for parts for my BMW R80 project. Came for a part, found 4 parts, then boxed up the 10 parts I found, & finally paid him for the 22 parts I’m taking home. I really shouldn’t be let out in public unsupervised.

@DrHelenFry My great uncle R. A. E O’Rorke who was a military intelligence officer in Africa and Italy used cooperative POWs to speak to captured soldiers who were nazi loyalists. He discovered the fact that the Tiger Tank had arrived in Africa even though London thought it impossible.

British intelligence believed that one of the most valuable sources of intelligence in any war was prisoners-of-war. During WW2, the challenge was how to gain the information without contravening the Geneva Convention or using third-degree methods. Here's how they did it: (🧵)

This is an independent coffee shop this morning in Camden Passage, Islington. A perfect location, beautifully done inside, friendly service from the actual owner and yet there’s only me and one other person here. The big chains like Starbucks etc are rammed with people. So next time you moan there are only awful chain coffee shops everywhere, giving terrible service from staff who don’t care and no independents, look at yourself and where you spend your money.

A detailed report on the Tiger tank was published in the Tactical & Technical Trends magazine #OTD in 1943. It was theorized that this tank had deep water fording capability for an amphibious landing in the UK, so it was drawn with a snorkel attachment. #tanks #history #WW2 #WWII
