It would create a massive crisis of confidence globally over our financial integrity. USD would likely cease being the world's reserve currency. You'd more than likely see hyperinflation and capital flight. 2. It would create pure market chaos. Gold prices through the roof, stock, and bond markets would tank, and interest rates would take off on a rocket ship because any investors are going to want larger yields on now risky US debt. 3. All trust in the government would be lost. Both by its citizens and foreign nations. You'd see a run on banks. Do i think there will be a shortage? More than likely. I don't believe it's all or mostly gone. I do believe if the absolute worst case was true and the gold is largely gone, we'd never hear about it.
