Woke up feeling like I have not achieved anything significant this year. My bestfriend starts listing everything I have achieved and I’m just here looking, almost in tears Sometimes, we don’t see things cos we’re standing too close.

All that is needed is acknowledgment; words that show you understand what you did and that you care enough to own it.

So when someone overlooks my feelings and tries to cover up the hurt with a gift, food, some other gesture, or just move on like it never happened instead of giving a genuine apology, it does the opposite of comforting me. It makes me withdraw. It builds resentment.

I’ve never understood why some people replace a simple “I’m sorry” with a gesture or a reward. It’s something many of our mothers did after hurting you, they’d call you to come and eat instead of actually apologizing.
