How do you even change the geometric compression ratio when the piston is fixed by the crank? Beyond that I would expect the conrod to expand which would very minimally offset both the TDC/BDC positions. The cylinder bore would expand, which again, gets offset by the expansion of the piston crown. I guess they could somewhat change the characteristics by using different materials, but it seems well below what is being suggested. Don't see how it could be related to thermal expansion, especially not a 16:1 to 18:, seems very unlikely. They have to be altering the dynamic compression in a completely unique way.

@nadiacl16 No, it's not about solving them all at once, that's an unrealistic expectation to have, but it's rather about being able to solve them quickly. That mean not limiting yourself with design choices. In a metaphorical sense, you want to develop a chameleon.
