When a Society Turns Against Its Own
Reports from Cross River State this week have brought to light a deeply troubling incident involving young boys who were tied up like animals and brutally treated under the label of “Skolombo boys.” These are not merely disturbing images; they are a stark reminder that we have failed the children of our nation.
These young people, often labelled “Skolombo boys” and “Lakasara girls,” are not criminals by birth; they are victims of a system that has neglected them. Children who ought to be in classrooms, learning and building their future, are instead on the streets, struggling to survive.
Today, Nigeria has over 20 million out-of-school children, the highest number in the world, which constitutes a national emergency.
A society that ties up and beats its children with machetes is one that has lost its moral direction. We cannot claim to be building a future while destroying the very foundation of that future - our children.
Even more troubling is the contradiction we now live with. In a country where we speak of rehabilitation and reintegration for “repentant” terrorists, how do we justify brutality against vulnerable children whose only “crime” is poverty and abandonment?
We must move from punishment to compassion, from neglect to responsibility. These children must be taken off the streets and given access to education, shelter, and structured rehabilitation. Governments at all levels should seek ways to protect and integrate them into society, rather than criminalise them.
This is not just about Cross River; it is about the kind of Nigeria we are choosing to build. We must do better. Our nation must protect the weak and the future of its people.
A New Nigeria is POssible. -PO

@BashirElRufai Not that Nasir doesn’t deserve that treatment even something worst but for the sake of our democracy he needs a fair trail in court and if found guilty should be locked up in the most darkest place.

Oga why you arrest Nasir El-Rufai?
Bola Ahmed Tinubu@officialABAT
The arrest of Nasir El-Rufai by the SSS in Anambra if true is another blot on our democracy, coming after yesterday's failed frame up.

I don’t even know if my mum will remember this one.
One day she sent me to go and buy fuel. I carried my full chest and went, only to get there and realize I didn’t carry keg.
I jejely came back home to pick it.
That was how she called me aside and gave me small “family meeting.” Talk about “So you went there without keg? I said you don’t use to think. You should have used your mouth to carry the fuel.”
I said okay ma and went back with the keg like a responsible citizen.
Fast forward small.
We went to the market one day to buy groundnut oil. Madam forgot her container. And to make matters worse, her usual seller didn’t have a spare.
She started lamenting.
That was when the ancestral spirit that wanted me to cry whispered boldness into me. I said, “Mummy, you can use your mouth to carry the oil na.”
What happened after that statement is not for public broadcast. I can’t even remember how I got home.
Let’s just say “it is well”
African parents are bullies 😂

My son fought. I was summoned to HM's office-those invitations that come with stress. Boy is seated to my right, looking small, guilty & suddenly very obedient. I'm there trying to mimic a responsible parent.
The Headmaster had prepared a sermon: He spoke. And spoke eloquently. And spoke vehemently. About discipline, character, the future. Etc etc…
Me nodding like a car dashboard toy;
My son-Head down, Silent, Regretful: The picture of reform.
Finally, the Headmaster lands the plane: "Fighting in this school is highly punishable and strictly not allowed."
I turn slowly to my son. "lan, have you heard?" Boy looks me dead in the eyes & says: "Yes, Daddy... I will beat him during the holidays."
My spirit left my body😱.

Deji Adeyanju has been shouting that coalition is the only way the Tinubu regime can be sacked. In 2023, he insulted Peter Obi and Obidients daily for not joining forces with Atiku.
Now we have a coalition in ADC, and what does Deji do?
He criticises and insults politicians in the coalition. He insults Obidients trying to make the coalition visible. He paints the coalition as a group worse than Tinubu.
What is the implication of this:
Deji is working for Tinubu, as we've always said.
