It is also pretty cool to build your own custom PyTorch—all the way down to the backprop methods. :) 20/x

When talking about the GPU utilization, the key metric we want to maximize is so-called occupancy, the ratio of (active warps per SM) / (maximum warps per SM). Occupancy can be limited by a number of factors, such as how many registers each thread in a block occupies, the total amount of shared memory consumed across blocks with an SM, and the shape of the grid that we launch. Ideally we would like to maximize the occupancy as much as possible to utilize the entire compute available. 8/x

@paraschopra Windows will have this built in from next year. Virtual assistant for staying on top of my pending tasks and commitments. Including reminders. This is broad. Specifically, Reminders to prep for meetings Reminders for items due. As committed in meetings by me and others.

I’m prototyping a system that takes a screenshot of my desktop every minute, and then passes it through a local VLM for commentary, in order to make a log for downstream use. What should I try to prompt it with? What downstream applications should I imagine it with?

@manjotbassan @volklub They don't suck at it. They've chosen not to, because the overall societal math does not work out. Toyota did numerous studies on this.

@volklub Main reason is almost all Japanese manufacturers are not good at making EV or they don't want to. Toyota, Honda, Suzuki all suck at this. They are good in hybrids and want to continue selling hybrids. I haven't seen a single good EV from Honda/Toyota/Suzuki globally.

@bennpeifert Hi Benn, my son is still in school with some inclination towards markets and some aptitude towards math. Any suggestions on where he should get started on this?

Junior derivatives trader interview question: suppose I want to buy July-December forward starting at the money volatility in the S&P 500. How do I construct that exposure using options? How do I dynamically manage that position over time to maintain it?
Benn Eifert 🥷🏴‍☠️@bennpeifert

Very well. Favorite trade right now is short the strip of vix futures versus long S&P forward starting atm volatility, say 2-6 month maturity range. References below, no financial advice etc.

Benn makes a great point. I was at Goldman when the industry rolled out “Buffered Mandates” like Buffered Beta or Beta + mandates (or other wrappers) structured ‘products’ aimed at UHNW clients. What were they really? Portfolios of structured notes: counterparty IOUs tied to math formulas with no underlying asset—just a promise to pay, assuming the issuer doesn’t default. In plain English: “We’ll give you the S&P 500 return minus ~7% a year… forever… unless we blow up.” Here’s the kicker: these products often don’t require active hedging (the notes are self hedging with no active market). The bank sells the note and buys the index. Voila—a baked-in spread of ~7%. I call them financial products with embedded margin. It’s how Wall Street replaced shrinking commissions, front end fees, with math that always favors the house. Want to beat it? Short the structured note/product/ETF, buy the underlying index. With beta nearly always < 0.25, you can leverage intelligently and still control risk while enhancing returns. Anyone want to see it live? Very easy to do against $jepi, $jepq (not beta but mathematically disadvantaged for buyer). Disclosure: I’m a legally represented SEC whistleblower regarding the structure and marketing of these financial instruments. **If you know any HNWI that’s been sold Buffered anything ask them how their investment has panned out vs the underlying benchmark.

10 years and JEE still haunts me. What people don't understand is, middle class kids like me really don't have many options. Like when I couldn't get into an lIT for my UG, my entire family didn't talk to me for 3 years. Except for maa. Not their mistake. They sacrificed everything for me. Expectations are iminent. 1/ n

In a world where ChatGPT, Gemini, LLaMA, and Claude are racing ahead, was there really a need to build Sarvam—a “sovereign” Indian LLM? This feels more like an emotional, jingoistic decision than a logical one. Innovation shouldn’t be fueled by pride, but by purpose.
