#WATCH | Delhi: Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary (Marketing & Oil Refinery), Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, says, "I would like to convey to you that the Prime Minister has urged all citizens of the country to reduce their consumption of petrol and diesel. Wherever possible, utilise the Metro and public transportation; opt for carpooling; prioritise railways as a mode of transportation for goods; and wherever feasible, increase the usage of electric vehicles. Let us all come together and make every possible effort to conserve energy in our daily lives, so that the economic burden currently weighing upon the nation may be alleviated."

I watched @narendramodi ji’s Hyderabad speech very carefully. His appeal for economic self-reliance, sustainable living, and reduced import dependency was much needed, and people listen to him. But his govt and the @BJP4India state govts should lead by example. Here are a few of my asks from the govts. 1) Shift to online inaugurations of ALL projects. No city needs a massive VIP entourage and 30 police cars blocking traffic every 15 days because a minister has to come to inaugurate a bridge/road/tunnel/hospital. This is also non-essential travel. VIP entourages are going out of hand and that’s a waste of public money. 2) Most politicians, from all parties, spend huge amounts of money on lavish weddings. There should be a ceiling on that first. At least here @BJP4India can take the lead. 3) Prioritising Made-in-India and locally manufactured products is a very necessary ask, but again, should be started from the top. What stops @BJP4India politicians from wearing a made-in-India watch, carrying a made-in-India phone, wearing made-in-India textiles? People listen to you @narendramodi because you usually practise what you preach, but what about the rest of your govt and the state BJP govts? When will they walk the talk?

What stupid analysis! So all elites in India should then immigrate no... Why be here?

Kohli settled in London. #TVKVijay‌ can easily migrate to any country, start multiple businesses and triple his wealth. Even 1 film per year, along with his other businesses would give him a more comfortable, peaceful life and greater wealth. I still dont understand why he is entering politics. The only logical reason is that he genuinely wants to serve people. I hope I wont be proven wrong.

I agree and disagree with this. On facts I completely agree with Arnab. But facts can never come in the way of you deciding to stay in India especially for somebody who has an elite education like this individual. Because if that is the cause the obvious choice is to leave India
Arnab Ray@greatbong

Dear Mr. Vembu, I am welcome? IIM professors told me otherwise when I tried to apply to come back to teach future managers cybersecurity as a risk management discipline, something I thought I could do for India by training future generations to lead Indian companies in a cyber-informed manner. I was told to get another PhD in MIS to be worthy of teaching (I had a PhD in Computer Science from Stonybrook one of the top places in my field) Basically they wanted to hire their own students (a practice frowned on internationally) and actively were condescending or passively dismissive to anyone who was not. And I had a privileged position from a desi lens, as my father had been a professor at the same institution. I now do the same for one of world’s biggest medtech companies, wrote a book in the medical device space on this risk management concept extensively used in many other large medtech companies and I say this to preempt the “oh well you were not good enough”. Those who have known me on social media for two decades know that I am not the humble brag type. (I also applied to private management institutes. One of them sent me an email a year later after I had applied asking me to appear for an interview in two days promising to pay me second class train fare from where I was, which I presume would be difficult from Chicago (that’s where I was then)) So all this sounds great on X but unless institutions change in India, away from old babu culture, people who want to come back on their own (I already had my green card so I wasn’t trying to come because of visa issues, but from a genuine desire to leave a legacy) will find themselves blocked and demotivated. Thanks

@GhorAngirasa @vvaayu I voted.... My issue is if I find a scholar in Vedas in my own sampradaya or any other for that matter and I find him to be genuine I would help him/ or give him money directly than give some faceless trust.

To those who “display” interest in a Sampradāya and have a lot of opinions about it too but when it comes to putting your money where your mouth is, you hesitate to spend Rs.6-7k for a course (where the speaker is an erudite doyen of the Sampradāya who could use some support) and for that sum, you get classes spread over several weeks or even months. Why the hesitation? Is it because? (PS: This poll excludes anyone who is studying and find it impossible to get family support due to lack of interest on their part or in an otherwise difficult financial situation—I understand and we have tried our best to support some in this category. Only referring to “grown ups” who are earning, relatively financially independent and can afford this) Polls are anonymous; so please be truthful: Options: 1. I’m here for the conversation and good times, boss. Affordable or not, why would I spend money on Sampradāya & Śāstra revival? That’s Īśvara’s responsibility no? 2. I really want to support the cause and can quite afford it. But I have to get this expenditure approved by reading it out at home like a Bill in parliament & it got shot down by all Houses of Parliament (my house/spouse, my parents, her parents, whole neighbourhood, extended family, people from ancestral town I have not seen before) 3. I honestly find it too expensive. It’s not worth it, even if I can afford it. There’s no bang for the buck. 4. I don’t trust any organization beyond talking and texting, even if they are transparent and ready to share results and receipts on a monthly or at least bimonthly basis.

In Sri Lanka, you can get properties for as low as ₹10–20k per night just imagine trying to find something similar in Goa at that price! A friend of mine visited Sri Lanka last week and said it’s far more beautiful and much cleaner than Goa. At those prices, the kind of properties you get there are incredible. It really feels like Sri Lanka has become the more premium and classy destination now, with a much better crowd as well. He wrapped up his entire 5-day trip in around ₹70k, which honestly sounds like great value for the experience! 👌🏻

The cost of a $116B trade deficit and severe dependence on Chinese products. From medical APIs to auto magnets and from production machinery to defense tech critical minerals, the dependencies leave New Delhi with little room to meaningfully deter cartographic aggression. Decades of failed economic policy comes full circle in constraining negotiating leverage and geopolitical maneuverability. The stranglehold China is gaining over critical sectors of the Indian economy has been noted, but noting and reducing dependence on the margins is simply inadequate. Which sectors have drawn down Chinese imports to zero and substituted them with fully indigenous products?
Dr. Brahma Chellaney@Chellaney

The Price of Ritual Protest: After New Delhi this week rejected “mischievous attempts by the Chinese side to assign fictitious names to places which form part of the territory of India,” Beijing doubled down, saying it will continue to “standardize” names in territories it claims but does not control. The irony is that while India invokes the need to “stabilize and normalize” bilateral ties to counsel Chinese restraint, Beijing feels no such compulsion. In effect, China believes it can continue to provoke India with predictable regularity without jeopardizing the relationship. New Delhi, by responding each time with little more than ritual protest, is teaching Beijing that such provocations carry no cost — and therefore no reason to stop.

More this lady speaks she makes it perfectly clear that she does know e of engagement and d of diplomacy. Such people are our chief diplomats and ambassadors. No wonder India will never progress till it is in the clutches of such corrupt, incapable bureaucrats
Nirupama Menon Rao 🇮🇳@NMenonRao

@TVMohandasPai Dialogue is not delusion. It is how serious nations manage adversaries. To conflate engagement with complicity is very clever, so that the only position left is permanent refusal. Everything becomes binary: loyalty or betrayal. That’s not strategy. That’s theatre.
