Hello world, I've been laid off from Business Insider. I'm very sad and scared right now, and I've got pets to feed! If you know of any editing gigs, please send them my way. I also have some experience in grant writing, and a master's in public health if that helps 🤷‍♀️

@mcuban Instead of paying $10,000 a month for my leukemia medication I pay $49 a month. I love Mark Cuban!!

This is just a start. We will add more medications and continue to push down pricing
Jack Hopkins@thejackhopkins

The pharmacy started by @mcuban at @costplusdrugs is still one of the greatest things I’ve seen for a long time. I had a prescription for a small tube of Retin-A or “Tretinoin.” I called my local pharmacy. $107.26 is what it would be to get it filled with them. CostPlusDrugs? $42.49 If you don’t have insurance, or…even if you do, but they won’t pay for what you need/want….check to see if these folks have the medication you need. I can’t imagine that you’d find what you need for any less than for what they’re asking.

I noticed a fascinating trend in my book research: in the 1950s, antipsychotic drugs like Thorazine were merely seen as tranquilizers – they alleviated anxiety and agitation among patients without touching the root disturbance of schizophrenia. By the late 1960s, that narrative had changed: they were thought to target the root cause, like insulin and diabetes. By studying their mode of action you would unlock the mystery of schizophrenia. What changed? (Image from 1956)

@KittieMcSassy @theBrianaMills Hey, journalist here, working on a story about telehealth. So sorry to hear you're having to fight so hard for access. Would love to interview you, if you're open to it! Feel free to DM me. TIA and best wishes for easier access.

@theBrianaMills I don’t bother my friends about not masking, because I feel our public health institutions have failed them and not given them the right information. However, fighting for telehealth appointments from my medical doctors is absolutely infuriating. Ableism on a different level.

Ableism is so common and normal in society that asking for accommodations such as masking or testing with those close to you is seen as an inconvenience rather than a way to include people. It shouldn’t be an inconvenience to have people not fear death or chronic illness.

@svershbow I have wanted to do the same since I moved to nyc 10 year ago! Admittedly, I did buy some things (I was new, ok?). I also got lost in soho my first week here because I was walked by a SECOND Variazioni and thought I was back where I’d started. We must know!!

What editor will let me write a 4,000-word exposé on the obvious drug front that is Variazioni, the NYC chain store perpetually in the midst of a closing sale with a website that says "coming soon" and an Instagram account that hasn't posted since 2014.

@merrittk I dismissed EMDR as woo woo nonsense but finally gave it a shot after shit talking it for a year. It was extremely helpful, but I think for me that hinged on having a very specific target - and, yeah, I think I wanted to be well and was more open to it by then. Probs helped.

A few people have suggested EMDR which I might try at some point but I don't believe in it so I don't know if it'll work for me

@olgakhazan @Timberati Similar. Just today a v religious aunt said she was praying for me. I reply with “thank you, and I’m hoping all the same for you.” I’m an atheist, but the sentiment of my good will toward her is genuine and, if thought of as spirituality, not religion, the same, I believe.

Non-religious people: how do you respond when someone says, "I'll pray for you," and also, what do you say when you *feel like* you should say "I'll pray for you," but you and they both know you don't pray?

@amandamull @fizapirani My maddening search for a desk chair had me ready to do a similar piece. Ergonomic but ugly, attractive but excruciating, or just bank-breakingly expensive. And so many places to buy effectively the same unsatisfying thing.

I spent the past couple days trying to find out why all of the floor lamps on the internet are either ugly or boring—enough so that my flippant tweet about them last week went viral—and it turns out there are real answers to that question! theatlantic.com/technology/arc…
