Two men saved a pelican from a silent death at a busy pier. The bird had fishing wire wrapped tightly around its beak which kept it completely shut. This was a death sentence because pelicans breathe through their mouths and lack functional nostrils. If the beak is tied shut they will suffocate. The men spent several minutes cutting the tangled line until the bird could finally gasp for air and fly away.
