@PiQSuite Older Millenial. I grew up thinking this was core to education but I actually may have been taught about the Holocaust in the broader context of the Schindler’s List marketing campaign. Not sure how much they continue to teach

I’m in the middle of rewatching The World at War again. Must be the dozenth time now. For anyone who hasn’t come across it, it’s a 26-part documentary from 1973 covering the entire Second World War. Narrated by Laurence Olivier. Built around archive footage and interviews with the people who were actually there. Soldiers, civilians, resistance fighters, survivors. It somehow gets more powerful every time I watch it. You pick up on things you missed before. A pause in someone’s voice. The look on a veteran’s face when they’re asked about something they clearly haven’t talked about in years. Survivors describing the worst things imaginable with this quiet, flat matter-of-factness that hits harder than any dramatic score ever could. Olivier doesn’t try to sensationalise any of it. He doesn’t need to. The footage and the testimonies speak for themselves. I keep coming back to the same thought every time I rewatch it. This should be shown in schools. All of them. Not just in the Western World, but everywhere. Not to upset kids for the sake of it, but because nearly everyone who lived through this is gone now. These first-hand accounts are irreplaceable. When that living memory vanishes, all that’s left is what got recorded. And nothing recorded comes close to this series. It’s too easy for history to become abstract. Dates and battles and statistics. But there’s nothing abstract about a woman describing how she hid from the Gestapo, or a soldier struggling to find words for what he saw when the camps were liberated. That’s what keeps it real. That’s what makes sure it stays real. If you haven’t seen it, find it. If you have, watch it again. If you have kids, watch it with them.

BREAKING: Iran’s Speaker of the Parliament provides trading advice to investors trading US markets: “Pre-market so-called ‘news’ or ‘Truth’ is often just a setup for profit-taking. Basically, it is a reverse indicator. Do the opposite: If they pump it, short it. If they dump it, go long. See something tomorrow? You know the drill.”

@TheStalwart Hrrm but Mr Weisenthal, these new technologically superior (larger) eggs can’t be compared, ah-hem, to those old eggs, which, if we really think about it in an ivory tower way, obviates the higher price of the new, *superior* eggs One can’t be a muggle about this kind of thing
