@pretentiouswhat This strategy has served me well. Quite a bit cheaper too even if you get a nice hotel for a few nights staycation. 👍

@_mm85 It's a huge improvement. Much better through complex intersections with scooters and pedestrians. I really like the "human-machine co-driving" experience. Should be quite helpful for training data too. Haven't tried the fully automated swapping yet.

Seeing and hearing lots of genuine praise for the latest NIO World Model release by Chinese users. Seems to be a big step up in how the car handles and how natural it feels, also vs competition. $NIO

@BNPParibas And trust me friction is NOT reduced here. There is so much friction it scares people away. And mind you I am not an anti EV person. What if a skeptic would encountering experience they would NEVER return. And this is not even my first EV rental, 15/x

Just a frustration tweet. So, I got an electric rental car in Rome. No problem, but bat was at 42%. Oh yes the car (EVO 3) too sucks, but that’s not the issue. The problems you run into as a non EV driver when trying to charge an electric car are just epic. 1/x

I’m sold & need to race it against Renault R5. Identical specs and price. Wrong charge port placement.

@PauloMacro Now imagine this happening at the same time China is offering to help Brazil build a transcontinental railroad to bypass the canal and cut transport times to Asia. x.com/RnaudBertrand/…
Arnaud Bertrand@RnaudBertrand

This would be huge: Brazil and China are studying the construction of a 4,500km long South America transcontinental railway that would run from northern Brazilian state of Bahia, cross the Andes, and reach the Chancay megaport near Lima, built with BRI funding. If built, it could shorten shipping times from Brazil to Asia by as much as 12 days compared with current Atlantic routes that pass through the Panama Canal. Extremely telling of both countries' contrasting approach to the region, Mauricio Claver-Carone, Trump's special adviser on Latin American affairs, had called a few months ago for tariffs of up to 60% on any company using Peru’s Chancay port for trade with China. One side tries to create value, the other believes that others' gains is their loss... When actually, if you think about it, the US would also gain a lot from a richer and more developed Latin America. For one it'd considerably improve their illegal immigration issues, and create wealth and infrastructure for American goods and services too. It's like if you have a house in a village somewhere and a guy you dislike seeks to spend an enormous amount of money developing the area, and instead of recognizing that a thriving village benefits everyone - including you - you'd rather keep the whole place poor just to spite him. Pure destructive nihilism. Src: scmp.com/news/china/dip…

Right… tighten Brazil right into the arms of China and others in a multi-polar world
0xChariot@quietlyobservs

@PauloMacro It's the revival of the Monroe Doctrine. As the US prepares to cut Europe loose, it needs to tighten the grip on South America.

@SinoAutoInsight Won't be surprised if iCar gets regulatory approval for their short bed truck and sells it for under $20k with all the bells and whistles before anyone gets a bare bones Slate.

@pretentiouswhat Had to resort to Luckin on a few occasions during our travels the past few weeks. Their SOE is not bad for 20rmb, but I still prefer Manner by a large margin.

Perhaps the true threat is to China's recently-improving image for quality of consumer products. Because Luckin is not good coffee. But now that I think of it, neither is Starbucks. Even worse, tbh.🤔 I'd like to see Manner Coffee go global though!

@chinacarstravel We needed a little break from the heat and the kids wanted to do some hiking, so I got to test out a Li L7 for about 700km. Pretty comfy.

@strobist We had a blast. It was fun to see how they experienced and navigated the country. Let me know when you have a better idea on your SH travel dates. Avoid July and August if possible. Too hot and humid to enjoy any day of the scenic walks.

If Chinese CNC parts are only 40% more than the raw material cost of the stock, and you remove 40% of the material during machining, then, I mean, see what I mean?
