Engineers in Japan built a train so fast it started causing literal explosions. 🚅💥 Every time it hit a tunnel, it created a Sonic Boom that shattered windows and woke up entire neighborhoods. The solution didn't come from a lab. It came from a bird. 🧵

22% proficiency isn’t just a gap it’s a national crisis. 📉 We are raising generations who don’t understand the very system they’re inheriting. If students don’t know the Constitution, they can’t defend their rights. It’s time to get back to the basics and stop using classrooms for social experiments.

FAILING GRADE: Education advocates urge stronger national civics standards as new data highlights gaps in students’ understanding of American government ahead of a federal assessment update. The latest "Nation's Report Card," released in 2022, found just 22% of eighth graders proficient in civics, while 31% scored below basic. The group "Defending Education" urges the new assessment prioritize the Constitution and America’s founding principles, warning weak standards and a focus on DEI are driving a “wave of activism” and turning students into “pawns in someone else’s game.”

@CENTCOM High speed gas station at 30,000 feet. ⛽️✈️The E-3 Sentry is the Eye in the Sky, but it doesn't stay there without the KC-135. Seeing that 30-foot radar dome up close really puts the scale of #OperationEpicFury into perspective.

@BBCWorld President Trump's latest address suggests the war's core strategic objectives are nearing completion, yet strikes on infrastructure like the B1 bridge continue. This 2 to 3 week window is a recurring theme in this administration's policy announcements.

Bumblebees burn energy so quickly that even after a big meal, they're only about 40 minutes away from starving. This high-speed metabolism powers their constant foraging but means they have to eat almost nonstop during active hours.

@NSFVoyager2 It’s wild to think that 2.4 Watts—barely enough to power a single LED bulb todaywas a critical life-saving measure for a scout at the edge of the solar system. The engineering efficiency of the Voyager mission is still unmatched. 🌌

On this day in 1991, my photopolarimeter subsystem (PPS) was turned off due to degraded performance, saving 2.4 W of power. The PPS was used to measure surface texture and composition, particle size distribution and composition in ring systems, and to study scattering and density of atmospheres. The PPS was a 15 cm telescope with three polarizing filters as well as eight color filters, followed by a photomultiplier tube to amplify the dim conditions. Voyager 1's photomultiplier tube failed in November 1979 after the Jupiter encounter, and so the V1 PPS was never used again. All other Voyager PPS data therefore comes from Voyager 2. Forty filter combinations were used in 24 second sequences using 400 ms exposures and 200 ms filter change timings. These filter sequences allowed amounts and states of Na, H, He, Ca, CO, O, Mg, Si, K, and CH3 to be derived, as well as scale heights in atmospheres.

This is the shot you can’t get from the press site. This camera was sitting a few football fields from the SLS rocket at Pad 39B for days before launch, baking in the Florida sun, surviving rain, humidity, and whatever else the Cape threw at it. No photographer behind the viewfinder. Just a camera, a sound trigger, and a bet. The way pad remotes work: you set your camera up days in advance, dial in your composition, lock everything down, and walk away. You don’t touch it again until after the launch. The shutter fires on sound activation with a @MiopsTrigger smart+ trigger. With SLS, the four RS-25 engines ignite six seconds before the solid rocket boosters, so the camera is already firing before the vehicle even leaves the pad. You get home, pull the card, and find out if you nailed it or if a bird landed on your lens two days ago and left your a present and you got 400 photos of soemthing crappy. There’s no formula for protecting your gear this close. Some photographers build wooden boxes with doors that pop open. Some use plastic bags and tape. Some do plastic or metal barn door rigs on hinges. I tend to leave mine open just in plastic rain covers because boxes limit my composition and setup time, but that means your cameras are more exposed to the elements and whatever energy and debris comes off the pad. You’re basically gambling a camera body every time you set one. That’s what I love about this genre. There’s no playbook. You make it up as you go. Every time is an adventure. 📸 credit: me for @SuperclusterHQ - Artemis II pad remote | ~1,000 ft from Pad 39B | Kennedy Space Center

@wonderofscience Wait, it gets even cooler. they actually track the predator's speed and distance like a living radar system. 🛰️ The closer the wasp gets, the more intense the shimmer becomes! It's not just a wave,it's a message saying We see exactly where you are

Giant honeybees use a collective defense known as "shimmering" to deter wasps and other predators, whereby hundreds of individual bees flip their abdomens upwards in a coordinated Mexican wave-like pattern.

'NEARING COMPLETION': President Trump says Iran is "no longer a threat" after 32 days of Operation Epic Fury. The president says the United States' "core strategic objectives" in the Middle East are in the home stretch and is warning that the U.S. will hit Tehran "extremely hard" over the next several weeks. Here are five key takeaways from the President's address.

@NASA_Johnson The signal strength arriving at these antennas from deep space can be 20 billion times weaker than the power in a digital watch battery. Yet, we’re using it to hear the voices of four humans 200,000 miles away. Absolutely mind-blowing. 📡
