#chile Josefa Barraza, a Chilean investigative journalist known for her exposés on police brutality and corruption has been repeatedly targeted by politicians and public officials in retaliation for her reporting. In April 2024, while serving as director of independent news website El Ciudadano, she faced a criminal defamation lawsuit filed by former congresswoman Andrea Molina, who sought to have her jailed for her coverage of Molina's role in the municipality of La Reina. The case was later dismissed. Barraza resigned from El Ciudadano in March 2025 after facing multiple defamation lawsuits from politicians. She went on to co-found Contrapoder, a new investigative outlet, which was immediately hit with another criminal defamation complaint from Ñuñoa mayor Sebastián Sichel after it reported on corruption allegations against his administration. #InternationalWomensDay
