Since its move to Division I in 2004, North Dakota State has the most wins among all programs. The Bison spent the 2003-13 seasons under coach Craig Bohl, who captured FCS national championships in his final three campaigns in Fargo.

NDSU won the 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021, and 2024 FCS National Championships. Prior to joining the FCS, NDSU won the 1983, 1985, 1986, 1988, and 1990 Division 2 National Championships. North Dakota State beat 9 FBS teams while they were an FCS school, notably taking down 6 Power 4 teams.

Whatever college football looks like in 2031 the presiding groupthink is that there aren’t going to be 136 teams at the highest level of play. NDSU likely wanted to get its nose under the tent when a new division emerges of 60-80 teams. That and the fact it had maxed out winning 10 FCS titles in the last 15 years made it time to look for higher ground. With facilities on the same level as CUSA and Sun Belt (at least), NDSU is poised to make a move— as a school, not just in fb. Don’t discount the impact of the Bakken Field, one of the largest onshore oil/natural gas deposits in the country. If Indiana can weaponize Big Ten economic superiority, NDSU can transform black gold into a seat at the FBS table.

The 2025 Chicago Bears season was full of great moments. This was a season I’ll remember for a long time. Year 1 of the Ben Johnson and Caleb Williams era blew away expectations. Year 2 should only be better with the foundation they built. 🐻⬇️
