@DrewPavlou No one is stupid enough to invade America. The only way you take this land is with Nukes. The whole damn world could try and I bet we still outlast them. We may only have a few million active military, but we have 175+ million more armed and wishing someone would try.

Let’s flip the scenario for a moment.
Imagine Iran killed Trump in the first 5 minutes of the war, established air superiority over the US mainland, wiped out the entire US Air Force, US Navy, killed half the Cabinet, flattened the US military industrial complex, then started building runways in Missouri to land Iranian troops without losing any casualties.
Would you say it was a US victory if the US managed to keep the Panama Canal closed throughout this all?

The fact that America’s goals went from “the complete destruction of Iran’s military power or even regime change” to “reopen a trade route that was open a month ago” doesn’t say great things about American power

I just don’t see any chance that America and Israel agree to Iran enriching any uranium, or paying Iran for the damage…like it’s crazy how people are actually buying this.

@BrianTycangco People are all guessing what the reason for the turn around was. Maybe Iran’s largest client told them to. It’s as simple as that.

Take this with a big grain of salt.
But I think, that the hardliners in Iran have been weakened (killed) to such a huge extent, that the IRGC is essentially powerless in terms of bullying the reformists.
That’s why the ceasefire path was cleared relatively quickly and swiftly.
Before, it used to be Iranian reformists wanting to deal with the west, remove sanctions, rejoin SWIFT, but the hardliners threatening and intimidating them to shut down any attempts.
So the “regime change” terminology Trump is using may not be far from the reality.

@MirMAKOfficial Obama rightly described Russia as a regional power. Hardly world leading these days, other than on the UNSC (where no-one really leads in any meaningful sense).
France is still a great power and so is the UK.

Why did we invade, lose American lives and then seemingly give Iran more money, sanctions relief and control over the Strait of Hormuz than they had before the war?

It’s becoming increasingly clear that Trump sought help from Pakistan to get him out of his 8pm “kill the Iran civilization” ultimatum to give him another two weeks to figure out what to do next. Iran has made it clear it will not agree to a ceasefire but only to a complete stop to the war along with guarantees, given their past experiences. So, saying they reached an agreement for a ceasefire stretches credulity. Bombs continue to be dropped throughout the Middle East.
