South Carolina was its own "country" before the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4th, 1776 because SC had declared its independence from Great Britain in mid March 1776. Afterwards, SC drafted and adopted its own Constitution, like the article says.

161 years ago this morning was Lee's assault on Ft Stedman. While initially successful, the ease with which Grant's army retook the lost positions demonstrated the degraded combat prowess of the ANV. This was the beginning of the end of the Petersburg campaign.

Folks keep asking: How was my trip to Hickory? How did my speech go?
Honestly, I’m not the best public speaker. I’m not used to it yet. Though I make videos and have a large social media presence, I’m not a fan of having all eyes on me—especially in the real world.
But I did it anyway.
I’ll keep doing it anyway.
Because preserving North Carolina culture and our way of life matters.
It matters so much that I decided not only to show up, but to record the whole thing. Speech, included.
And that speech gives an honest look at what life was like under Roy Cooper.

Am I hosting Spaces tonight?
Probably not.
This morning, Belle and I rode with Brandon to look at samples for a potential kitchen remodel and keep him company while he stopped by a job site.
Brandon complained of numbness in his face. When he looked at me, I saw the whole left side of his face was paralyzed.
I rushed him to the ER.
Thankfully, it was not a stroke.
He’s back home with all of us, but he’s on a ton of meds and still experiencing facial paralysis.
Depending on how Brandon’s feeling and how into March Madness he gets, I might host a short impromptu Spaces tonight or sometime this weekend.
