@RussellDScott @Braden_Keith @HUSwimming I think you're exactly right @RussellDScott - a competitive high school meet can be exciting to the non-swimnerd; a 3-day meet is not.

@Braden_Keith @HUSwimming The problem as I see it is that usa swimming places priority on club swim and not high school. usa swim views hs as a throw away. Maybe focus more on the high school part which would get more people interested.

Why didn’t anyone vote for the better proposal 2 years ago?

@JMBpreps Promotion and relegation would be practical until you try to figure out conferences for playoff quals. My experience tells me people will take huge flaws that are easy to understand over practical solutions that confuse the layman.

@DianaRuggOnTV @AdamMGrant I agree we need to find ways to evaluate talent that measure the talent and not the skill with the measurement itself. We do kids a disservice when we take too many stressors away. Life is stressful, and the more dimensions of stress that are faced head on create resilience.

@ncprepswimming @AdamMGrant 1) Teachers will tell you they also have limited time to teach the curriculum They’d LOVE to teach stress-coping/ test-taking skills but they don’t have enough TIME 2) Your idea has merit but … not every kid responds to the same coaching the same way 😉

Timed tests don’t measure what students know. They assess how students perform under stress. Data: tests under time pressure underestimate the abilities of girls—especially in math, where test anxiety is high. If students can't finish a test, make it shorter or give more time.

@Braden_Keith This is very similar to overcoming fear. From a psychology standpoint, to succeed you don't become less afraid; you become braver. Because less afraid overcomes one fear. Braver overcomes all fears.

While I know that the answer everyone wants to add is "both," which do you think is more important to addressing mental health in athletes: reducing the stressors and pressure? Or making the athletes more resilient to the stressors and help them cope with pressure in a healthy way? Reply with your 'why'.
