I'm a front-end developer, interested in design, its subsequent development & the humans consuming it all. Not an astrologer. He/him. https://t.co/NtHJUBveCJ

I'll start… * deprecated align attribute * width and height do not take 'px', they need to be integer * Self-closing BR with space is XHTML and BRs should be the job of CSS * No alternative text * "try it here" is terrible link text out of context

Saw this HTML in a readme in 2025… Amazed how many terrible things one small bit of HTML can have. Can you count the mistakes?

@jina Hey Jina Anne, I tried to join the slack community from the design.systems page, but it looks like the slack link has expired. Is the slack community still going? I'm looking for a DS job in Europe/GMT timezones. Thanks!

Accident involving a pedestrian on Pirie street, Mt. Victoria. No skid marks, just a loud bang, and the pedestrian trapped underneath. Emergency services were here in seconds. Pedestrian conscious. All because the driver coming down the hill tried to avoid another car. :(

@anxdep97 I heard the driver describing to the police that another car had budged into the intersection.

@ndorfin Hey. We just walked past it. Any idea why the car was trying to avoid the other?

@KatieHates They were moving their arms, talking to the paramedics, but had to keep still. Covered in dirt, and some streaks of blood on their face and hair.

@ndorfin We drove past just now and wondered what had happened. I hope they’re okay.

@rmurphey @washingtonpost Did they subset their fonts and forgot to include right accented quotes? And now the fallback font is displaying for the missing glyphs? :P

has anyone else noticed that the quotation marks on @washingtonpost are recently bold in safari? (but not chrome)

• tailor bundling to your compression capabilities; • Brotli is staggeringly more effective than gzip when dealing with a lot of historical data (i.e. a larger file); • compression is absolutely critical over worse connections; • you want to revisit your bundling strategy.

A teaser from my latest article. I’m trying to calculate a sweet spot for the number of bundles we split our code into: • one big file over Brotli is notably faster (22%); • one big file over gzip is marginally faster (4%); • one big file over nothing is notably slower (-10%)

@ChrisFerdinandi I wonder if this has anything to do with that stupid interview he had with Tucker Carlson, where he suggested the @nytimestech should be limited to 10 posts a day.

@singe Sorry, I was lumping the TLDR use of 'kill all white people' in the same bin as those myopic and bigoted emails that used to go around about the 'Night of the long knives' and other potential white genocide prophecies.

I didn’t take the video as prophecy or unfair criticism. I think my race and the deep privilege associated with that in ZA means my existential angst is tied to maintaining a position significantly unequal to the majority of the country - but I don’t think the effect of corruption and mismanagement are specific to my group. It will impact the entire population.

Seeing this on my favourite news and politics channel is pretty rough. Doubly so because its a pressing and legitimate question.

@singe Exactly. White people do love a little doomsday prophecising though. It's good for clicks.

Oh that’s super useful to know. I think that’s a legitimate criticism but misses important context and the findings from SAHRC deliberations on the various complaints. But if I had to summarise problems with the EFF into a short I would have focused on the corruptions scandals like VBS.

@singe They piggy-backed much of the content from the BBC's exposé on the same topic a month ago. It was disappointing to see the dog-whistling around the EFF's 'kill all white people' too.
