HT Exclusive - CBI closure report in actor Sushant Singh Rajput death says: “There is no evidence to suggest that actor was illegally confined, threatened, or provocated/abetted to commit suicide by Rhea Chakraborty or to establish that she embezzled his funds”. Rhea didn’t speak to or meet Sushant from June 8 to 20. Sushant called her “family”. Rhea only took an apple laptop and watch, gifted by Sushant, from his flat. Went to Europe on trip sponsored by him but he asked manager to book it. No criminal intimidation, cheating, theft or abatement of suicide by Rhea or her family. Sushant’s family to challenge the CBI closure report. hindustantimes.com/india-news/sus…

Finland is the Happiest country in the World for the 9th year running. We also climbed up the world brand index from 7th to 5th. I am often asked why we do well in these rankings. I do not think there is a magic potion, but it helps to have a society which strives towards freedom, equality and justice. The basis of it all is a welfare society, a robust education system, a sense of security and a close attachment to nature. There is no such thing as a perfectly happy society, but providing some building blocks that give us a chance to live a meaningful life, to help others, will nudge us in the right direction during the journey of life.

For roughly three decades, Western strategic commentary and media coverage have repeatedly warned about the possibility of China attacking Taiwan. The cycle intensified after the 1995–1996 Taiwan Strait crisis, when China conducted missile tests near Taiwan and the United States deployed aircraft carriers to the region. Through the 2000s and early 2010s, Western think tanks and defence analysts regularly discussed a future invasion scenario as China rapidly modernised the People’s Liberation Army and expanded amphibious and missile capabilities. The warnings became more frequent after 2016, when relations between Beijing and Taipei deteriorated following the election of Taiwan’s president Tsai Ing-wen. From 2021 onward the narrative sharpened further after US Indo-Pacific commander Admiral Philip Davidson told the US Congress that China might attempt to take Taiwan by around 2027, a timeframe widely amplified across Western media and political discourse. Yet the historical record over the same period reveals a striking contrast. While Western media and politicians have spent decades warning about a potential Chinese invasion that has not occurred, the United States has repeatedly carried out actual military interventions across multiple countries. Since 2001 alone, US forces have launched full-scale wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and conducted airstrikes, drone campaigns, and military operations in countries including Syria, Libya, Pakistan, Yemen, Somalia and Sudan. Broader research tracking the post-Cold War period counts roughly 251 US military interventions worldwide since 1991. The contrast lies between a sustained narrative centred on the possibility of a future Chinese invasion of Taiwan and the documented pattern of US military actions that have already taken place across numerous countries during the same historical timeframe.

New evidence suggests India misestimated annual economic growth rate during the past two decades. Growth in boom years 2005-2011 may have been underestimated by ~1–1.5 percentage points; Growth from 2012-2023 overestimated by ~1.5-2 percentage points. piie.com/publications/w…
