@jpalmiotti Depends on the era, right now, given how long your run was Jonah Hex. Followed by Harley.
In the Wizard days it was probably Ash or your Valiant work.
With the launch of Marvel Knights, DD or Punisher.
Insane to think how much of your work I’ve read the last 30 years

@SeanIzaakse I loved when the Wildstorm Univ was its own separate thing. The creators could take more interesting chances.
They’ve been trying to integrate the characters since the New 52 to varying degrees of success and outside of Grifter appearing in Batman it hasnt really done much

@KingHowardDuck @SeanIzaakse Version 3.0 fucking ruled!

@DenizCamp I think I liked Final Crisis #1 a little more but both were great issues

@jpalmiotti I always look at it as the price is the price and if you like it and can afford it its all good.
Zeck is a master so thats a great pickup.

Let me explain to all of you why artists signatures and original art prices are what they are- and why you should always support creators in general.
Simply put-the bigger corporate companies that hire us have all cut our page rates since Covid- sometimes in as much as half and all of them saying the books are making no money or next to none and the rates have to be cut. They use the terms " we only have so much in the budget" and so on. These are giant corporations that want to create a new normal. It sucks and makes us all feel disposable and taken advantage of> yes, it does...so they know and understand. We make comics for a living and don't want to shut doors so we have to bend to their offers in a lot of cases and hope we can balance it out with autographs and commissions for the artists.
Comic talent makes less money than most people working regular jobs. I make less money for the hours I put into my job than anyone I know.
We try to balance it by doing show appearances, sketches and autographs when we can, but the expenses for them add up as well and a lot of time we cannot make shows because of existing constant deadlines.
Making comics are a constant hustle- and we do it for love and to entertain our people-but please remember- creators you follow have to have websites selling their art and books to make up the difference so we can live a normal life. Your support to them is everything.
The actual work load takes its toll on a lot of the people I work with. Their health suffers and yeah- no one is getting medical coverage as well from anyone. The daily hours range from 10-15 hours a day in some cases -I know first hand. I just need to point this out now and again to a lot of people assuming we are all making money hand over fist- The % of people doing big money is about 5% of the creators and for different reasons than you may think.
And a reminder-
Royalties- once again a book has to , on average , sell over 60k [ this first 60k supposedly covers all the creative pay rates, editors, printing, and company expenses] for the entire team to split about 5% of the profit on the copies OVER that number. The company gets 95% of the profit- and this hasn't changed since I started in 1991. Think about that...not even 1% more- in the past 30 something years.
Newer companies offer better deals and some great deals, but most page rates are lower even, and look at your comic shop wall- the Best sellers are for the most part from the bigger companies. I have more faith in the smaller companies and root for all of them daily- but I want everyone to do well and share and be fair. It is time the bigger ones step up a bit for their people, but I am not holding my breath. I mean 30 years of loyalty to every company I have worked with is a long time, no?
And hey, If you feel I am wrong about any of this , please correct me, I am open to conversation and being corrected.
If you are a creator and have NOT been asked to have your page rate cut, please chime in. I would love to hear all about it.
Anyway,
Just my usual twice a year rant about the business end and hoping the fans knowing some of this will help them understand our creatives a bit more. And last reminder- I love what I do for a living- and they know that and some take advantage of that love. Welcome to corporate America.
