Men,
Your grandfather did not fight colonialists for you to fight another man because of a woman.
Your grandfather fought colonialism so that you may have the freedom to appreciate your self-worth as a man.

One of the biggest problems that this country faced between 2002 and 2022 was the collapse of state-led manufacturing industries (textile, sugar, paper, agro-manufacturing etc). The collapse of these industrial giants was as a result of a combination of high electricity cost, mismanagement, and the sudden influx of cheaper, duty-free imports. These include:
1.Kisumu Cotton Mills (KICOMI) that closed down in 2002.
2. Eveready East Africa that closed down in 2014.
3. Miwani Sugar Company (2002).
4. The Webuye Pan Paper Mills (2009)
5. Kenya Furfural Company (2005).
6. Mumias Sugar Company (2019)
7.Muhoroni Sugar Company (2002)
8. Spencom Kenya (2016)
9. Karuturi Limited (2014/2015)
10. ARM Cement Limited (2019)
Before this period, Rivatex, Africa Match Company, Proctor & Gamble, Colgate Palmolive, Johnson & Johnson, Industrial Plant Kenya Limited, Heritage Mills, and Shamash Brothers had just either closed operations or shifted to other neighboring countries.

The illusion of replacing leaders
2002: “We just need to replace Moi.”
Nobody cared about fixing the system.
2007: “We just need to replace Kibaki.”
No talk of systemic change
2022: “We just need to replace Uhuru.”
Infact vote Ruto to punish Uhuru
2027: “We just need to replace Ruto.”
Same illusion. Anyone but Ruto!
2032: “We just need to replace whoever”
A broken system eventually reproduces the same outcomes, no matter who sits at the top.
Can we discuss how we can reform the broken system atleast?

I have lived in Nairobi for more than two decades now and that is why I occasionally take interest in how the city is governed. Next to where I live, there is a huge billboard with Sakaja's face on it and I see it every time I stand at the balcony. It is written "Lazima iWank". It pisses me off.
There is need for serious change in how the city is governed. I support Babu Owino's quest for the gubernatorial seat. I have had one-on-one conversations with him about it and he knows I support his quest. He is one of the 3 politicians I speak to in this country.
However, I think Babu has very little grasp of issues affecting Nairobians and how to solve them. I even doubt if his focus is on the governor's seat; he is all over. Apart from the infantile and puerile slogans, useless cacophony, and jumping on podiums and SUV sunroofs, Babu has absolutely NO grasp on policies and systems that should be put in place to rescue the city. It's a disturbing trend. Every interview he does pushes him down the rabbit hole and the emptiness becomes more evident. I hope he doesn't close the barn door after the horse is gone.
