@IvanaDGreco Don't ever give your kids access to endless scroll, short form, or autoplay. Heavily curate the content, make it age appropriate and heavy on a moral message. Teach them about online safety! The type of content really matters.

@TARSRel0aded No, they don't, and in fact they barely teach about Jesus at all. It's all about having a relationship, but none of the lore is ever covered.

Don't let people on here fool you about how early your kid should be toilet training btw- most kids aren't doing it in any semblance of independence until they're around 3yo

People who came to the U.S. legally as *babies*—brought by their parents on student or work visas—have to self-deport to countries they’ve never known if they can’t get a green card before aging out of the system. It’s terrible, and it needs to change. reason.com/2021/12/16/the…

The responses to this are a good reminder that a lot of anti-immigrant keyboard warriors have no idea what the law says. “He had 20 years to become a citizen!” No. Thanks to country of origin caps, the wait time for Indians can be over *100 years*—just to get a green card. Many die waiting in line. We tell people seeking the American Dream to come here “the right way,” and then we punish them for doing so.
Sam Peak@SpeakSamuel

This H-1B worker has lived in the US for nearly 20 years and built a family here. His mom was dying in India. To visit her, he would need to wait months to book a consular appointment--with the soonest one available likely being scheduled one year out. He made the difficult choice of not visiting his dying mom because leaving without an appointment would mean separation from his children, job, and his other obligations. Much of the commentary around immigration focuses on how such bureaucratic burdens undermine immigrants’ ability to contribute and innovate. But we must remember that this red tape also prevents these people from being fully engaged with their own lives and meaningfully present in the lives of others. This matters too, and these seemingly non-economic problems will eventually translate into economic costs. If America is no longer a place where people feel empowered to be the best versions of themselves as they celebrate, struggle, and grieve, it ceases not just being the land of opportunity, but also the land of dignity and purpose. linkedin.com/posts/gautam-d…

@TheKatieFlair I absolutely have no hate for women who were duped into having no children. My sister falls in this category, and I love her dearly.

Soon there will be an entire demographic of women who wanted children but didn't have them, and now can't have them, because they fell into this cultural vibe. They'll be hated by the left for not being content without children. They'll be hated by the right for not having them.
Hildegard of Bangin’@medieval_bops

I am 51 and deeply regret not having kids. I was stringently brainwashed into believing that I should never have children. I’ve never even been pregnant as far as I know. I was on birth control from age 16 through age 49.

@Romy_Holland It's definitely *easier* when it's your own child, but man I'll be honest, it still happens. They just go on and on and on. Most of it is adorable, but throw in being busy or tired or stressed, and it can wear on you.

i understand why ppl do small talk when they are first meeting someone, but why do some ppl do compulsive small talk all the time? my MIL just by default talks nonstop. “do you think all of that will fit in that suitcase? i always check my suitcase, don’t want to be lifting it on the plane. i take it to the gate and check it there. they let you check it for free!” “uber is here! last time i took an uber it was a prius. hard to get ubers at my house, have to call ahead.” “i talked to margaret. did i tell you that? she called me. she’s getting ready to go to the airport. 2pm fight for her. but she’s flying domestic. gets in in the evening.” but like basically nonstop for hours. never anything that needs to be said, always just kinda autobiographical and impossible to respond to with anything other than “mmmm.” it is very much the same as someone following me around with a television playing nonstop ads, but if i don’t kinda pay attention to the ads i am rude. not only can i now not have a normal conversation with my fiancé, i cannot even have interesting thoughts in my own mind.

@Romy_Holland @tess_ashpool @climatepaige She probably will, if she's anything like mine. Your best bet is to keep it light to mitigate hurt. I really feel for you though, it can be really hard having that constant source of noise stealing your attention.

This is pure system accelerationism. If this happens, Australian democracy will lose all pretence of legitimacy, and the government will effectively be planning for a race war to definitely happen. How can you even pretend there is some kind of "social contract" while doing this?

@M_22154 @bumbadum14 Well sorry, but I do judge mums who are happy to put their babies in another room overnight. It's a precious baby that needs their parents, especially mum, sleeping completely alone while mum and dad cuddle up. It's just a bit on the nose.

@neojool @bumbadum14 I realize plenty of moms do bed-share safely & don’t think you’re negligent for doing so But it frustrates me to see some such moms shaming moms who don’t want to (sleep worse, stressed by the idea) or who question if it’s *as* safe (I think it’s slightly less safe vs same room)

@tragicbirdapp It's fine, it's just hungry. Pour the hooch off the top, chuck a little in a jar and add some flour/water. It'll be good as new.
